Denford Ngadziore, also known as Denford Madhuku the man who allegedly attempted to effect a citizen’s arrest on Professor Jonathan Moyo last year was acquitted today. Madhuku was represented by award winning Zimbabwe Lawyers for Human Rights Lawyer (ZLHR) Obey Shava, who managed to secure his permanent release.
Madhuku was arrested last year after he allegedly addressed an unsanctioned gathering demanding the arrest of Professor Jonathan Moyo over his alleged abuse of Zimbabwe Manpower Development Fund (Zimdef) funds. He was charged with contravening the Public Order and Security Act for failing to notify the regulatory authority at Harare Central Police District when convening a public gathering.
However, Magistrate Lazini Ncube discharged Ngadziore at the close of the State case after ruling that the pro-democracy campaigner had no case to answer as the State had failed to establish a prima facie case against the human rights activist.
