Tich Mataz in court for trying to smuggle clothes and shoes

Media personality Tichafa Augustine Matambanadzo, better known as Tich Mataz, appeared in court on Thursday facing charges of facing charges of contravening the Customs and Excise Act.  Matambanadzo had allegedly attempted to smuggle clothes and shoes from China.

Harare magistrate Mr Lazini Ncube granted him $100 bail and ordered him to surrender his passport. He was remanded to the 27th of February for trial.

Outlining the Prosecution’s case, prosecutor Mrs Francesca Mukumbiri alleged that on the 7th of January Matambanadzo arrived at Harare International Airport from China and proceeded to the nothing to declare channel. However, he was stopped by a Zimra official who asked to inspect his goods. Zimra officials found several suits, shirts, and shoes which Matambanadzo had not declared. He is alleged to have prejudiced Zimra of $538,75 by not paying duty for these items
