Pastor Evan Mawarire finally released from Chikurubi Maximum Security Prison

ThisFlag Movement founder Pastor Evan Mawarire was finally released from Chikurubi Maximum Security Prison after spending the week in custody. Yesterday Mawarire had to spend another night in the cells, despite the fact that he had been granted $300 bail by High Court Judge, Justice Clement Phiri. After his release, Mawarire declined to do any interviews saying that he is very tired and needed to rest. As part of his bail conditions, Mawarire was asked to surrender his passport and report to Avondale Police Station twice a week.

Mawarire was unable to go home yesterday, due to the fact that there was paperwork that needed to be completed. The defence was unable to complete, the paperwork for his release yesterday because the bail hearing ended much later than had been anticipated after it had been moved to after lunch. In the morning the state prosecutors had asked for a postponement citing that they were unprepared due to the fact that they did not have electricity the previous night.
