Bulawayo City Council & Govt reach deal concerning council schools

Government has agreed to let School Development Committees (SDCs) pay salaries for general workers on Bulawayo City Council (BCC) schools.

Last year, BCC announced plans to handover 29 schools to SDCs as a cost cutting measure before the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education, Dr Sylvia Utete-Masango rejected the bid saying it was against the country’s education policy. However, BCC and the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education have reached an agreement that will see SDCs paying salaries for general workers while council pays critical staff such as bursars, office orderly and school clerks.
