William Shito, 29, of Bulawayo was hauled before the courts on the charge of having sexual intercourse with a minor. Shito accepted the charge and pleaded guilty. He was remanded out of custody and will be sentenced today. In mitigation, he said he was unaware that the 15-year-old girl was a minor.
I didn’t know that she was a minor. I only knew her on Sunday last week and on that same day we had sex. Judging by her body, I thought she was more than 18 years old
Outlining the state’s case prosecutor Mr Nkathazo Dlodlo said Shito met the girl coming from Church on the 22nd of January.
The accused person followed her and proposed love but the complainant did not answer him. After a few minutes, another accused person`s friend came driving and picked his friend including the complainant and they drove off to Barham Green shops to buy beer.
The court heard that Shito started drinking with the minor until she got drunk. The two then had protected and consensual sexual intercourse once. The next day Shito gave the girl $10.
