Three closely related people were arraigned before the courts on charges of fraud and theft of trust property after they used their own Point of Sale (POS) machines to steal $255 000 from their employer.
The three Cleopas Chibhanguza (34), his wife Rumbidzai (33) and brother-in-law Takunda Muchenje (28) appeared before Harare magistrate Ms Rumbidzai Mugwagwa last week.
It is alleged that three worked for Definitive Creations (Pvt) Ltd which runs Bellevue Butcheries. Chibhanguza and his wife were supervisors while Muchenje was the Information Technology Systems manager. The three of them connived to form their own company called Atlantic Logistics (Pvt) Ltd which was running a parallel butchery.
When Bellevue Butchery introduced POS machines in 2015, the three distributed 7 of their own POS machines to some of the branches without their employer’s knowledge. All the money swiped through these machines went to Atlantis Logistics and not Bellevue’s company accounts.
The matter only came to light after the company realised that Cash flow had significantly gone down. Only $ 12 000 has been recovered from the $155 000 that was stolen through the POS terminals. Another $100 000 was stolen by Rumbidzai who received all the money the company received through EcoCash. Nothing has been recovered yet.
