Coca Cola Zimbabwe says it will not change selection rules for Top 50 despite Zhakata winning all top 3 awards

Coca-Cola  Zimbabwe the sponsors of the Coca-Cola Radio Zimbabwe Top 50 have said that they will not change the selection process for the show.  Coca-Cola Zimbabwe country manager Nomathemba Halimana maintained that listeners and viewers will always have the final say.  This follows an outcry after Leonard Zhakata won all three top awards, leading some people to call for a panel of experts.  .

Speaking at the  awards ceremony Halimana said:

Unlike other music award ceremonies where panels of experts are responsible for choosing winners, this one is unique as it belongs to the viewers and listeners. Fans are empowered to select songs and videos of their choice through a voting platform.

Zhakata also said:

I would like to thank the organisers for coming up with such an event and also my colleagues Proggy and Sulu who I worked with on the song ‘Madam Boss’, they really did a good job and I really appreciate it.
