Zimbabwe loses 2-0 to Senegal in second AFCON Group B match

The Zimbabwe senior men’s soccer team were beaten 2-0 by Senegal in an AFCON Group B match played in Gabon.

Senegal scored courtesy of Liverpool striker Sadio Mane in the 9th minute before Henry Saivet doubled the lead courtesy of a free kick in the 14th minute. Senegal dominated proceedings in the first half and threatened to score a third goal before the break. Zimbabwe’s first half chances came in the 18th minute when Khama Billiat made his first attempt at goal. Zimbabwe seemed to be getting into the game in the late minutes of the first half but could not find an equaliser.

In the second half Pasuwa substituted Kuda Mahachi and Matthew Rusike for Tendai Ndoro and Evans Rusike. Senegal again dominated the half and came close to scoring several times but thanks to Tatenda Mukuruva they failed to do so. Senegal now leads the group with 6 points from two games and has qualified to the next round.
