Five pro-democracy campaigners who were arrested last year after allegedly robbing some women at Africa Unity Square were set free yesterday. The five activists Partson Dzamara, Oliver Chikumba, Tatenda Mombeyarara, Pride Mkono and Makomborero Haruzivishe were removed from remand by Magistrate Nomsa Sabarauta. Their lawyer Obey Shava of Zimbabwe Lawyers for Human Rights (ZLHR).had filed an application for refusal of further remand
Their lawyer Obey Shava of Zimbabwe Lawyers for Human Rights (ZLHR) had filed an application for refusal of further remand after noting that all the State’s witnesses were yet to attend a single court session. The defence inferred that the state witnesses were fictitious. Magistrate Sabauta granted the application and instructed the State to proceed by way of summons.
