Pastor who prophesied that Mugabe will die on 17 October denied bail

Pastor Patrick Mugadza of  Remnant Pentecostal Church who made a prophecy that President Robert Mugabe will die on 17 October 2017 has been denied bail.    The Pastor was being charged with criminal nuisance after prosecutors alleged that he insulted  Christian religion and the African tradition by predicting someone ‘s death.

Harare Magistrate Vongai Muchuchutu denied him bail citing that

...the clergyman has propensity to commit similar offences

Magistrate Muchuchutu also dismissed Mugadza’s application challenging the lawfulness of his arrest and detention.  Mugadza’s lawyer Gift Mtisi of Zimbabwe Lawyers for Human Rights had argued that clergyman’s constitutional right to be brought to court from police cells within 48 hours had been violated as he was brought to court after 51 hours.

Magistrate Muchuchutu also dismissed Mtisi’s application for refusal of placement of Pastor Mugadza on remand.
