Chivero 100 percent full, water starts spilling after 25 year low
Harare’s main water source, Lake Chivero (formerly Lake McIlwaine) is now 100 percent full. The lake started spilling yesterday, having recovered from a 25 year low in levels. This comes as good news to Harare’s residents and city fathers, as the lake supplies water to the city’s almost 2 million residents. Over the years, Harare has faced water supply problems, although additionals factors have been cited apart from inadequate water in the lake.
Speaking on his Facebook page, Harare Mayor Bernard Manyenyeni announced:
One hundred percent – our major water supply dam, Lake Chivero, started spilling today at 8 am.
FeedbackThe lake was recovering from a 25-year low and is rising. Our raw water quality will improve so so much with the inflows and outflows.
