Security guard murdered in Seventh Day Adventist church robbery

Buton Skalongo died on admission to Mpilo Central Hospital, after he was attacked by four armed robbers during a robbery at the Seventh Day Adventist church-run Pelandaba Primary School in Bulawayo. His colleague Mr Vusa Tshuma survived the attack.

The robbers stole two laptops and cash amounting to $200 early yesterday morning. The four men broke into the school and church, which are located on the same premises, at around midnight yesterday and brutally attacked the two security guards before allegedly tying them with ropes and left them in a passage. Both Mr Tshuma and Mr Skalongo were rescued at around 6AM and rushed to Mpilo hospital.

SDA West Zimbabwe Conference spokesperson Pastor Tadius Nkanyezi said the church was in mourning. Bulawayo police spokesperson Inspector Precious Simango said investigations were underway.
