Prophet who was arrested for rape after Tilda Moyo show charged with fraud also

Onbeat Mapfumo of By Grace Ministries in Highfields, yesterday appeared in court facing fresh charges of fraud.  He is being accused of defrauding his congregant Happious Mahembe of $1 300 in a fraudulent residential stand deal.  Mapfumo is already on bail in another case, where he is facing charges of raping three of his congregants.  This came after he admitted to the abuse on Tilda Moyo’s radio show

According to the allegations, Mapfumo duped Mahembe into believing that the  Central Intelligence Organisation was offering stands in South View for $800.  After being convinced that the Prophet could help him get a stand, Mahembe started making regular payments to  Mapfumo. Later on, Mapfumo told Mahembe that there was a dispute with the stand in question, although he emphasized that he could get Mahembe an alternative stand.  Mahembe made further payments but did not receive the land, leading to him making a police report.
