15 Zimbabweans in Botswana prison break, police launch manhaunt

Police in Botswana are hunting 15 Zimbabweans who escaped prison in Francistown on Saturday.  The 15 Zimbabweans together with 3 Botswana nationals escaped after destroying part of the Prison Fence with a manhole cover.  All 18 inmates were housed at Gerald Estates Centre for Illegal Immigrants.  Three of the 18 escapees have been recaptured.  Gerald Estate police commander, Edward Leposo said most of the escaped prisoners were on remand for murder and robbery.

Leposo said:

We are on the trails of many prisoners so far. What I can assure members of the public is that we will certainly arrest the fugitives,

Meanwhile Zimbabwean police spokesperson Senior Assistant Commissioner Charity Charamba indicated that the ZRP was waiting for communication from their Botswana counterparts.

We are always on standby to enforce the law but we have to follow protocol when dealing with matters of this nature
