Diamond ring saga: Mtetwa scoffs at ZRP lies, says police cannot seize property without due process

Lawyer Beatrice Mtetwa has scoffed at the ZRP‘s claims that her client is wanted by Interpol and that they seized his houses in order to investigate.  Mtetwa is representing   Jamel Ahmed who is currently embroiled in legal wrangles with First Lady Grace Mugabe over a botched diamond ring.   The ZRP led a spirited defence of the First Lady saying it was the police who had seized the houses instead.

Mtetwa stressed that the police have no powers to take anyone’s property without getting a court order first.

Mtetwa said:

Police have no power to just come into your house, evict your workers and everyone else and take occupation simply because they are investigating you; there is no law that allows that, unless if people are telling me we are now in a police state.

If that is how things worked, then everyone who is being investigated would be out of their house

No such due process has been followed. We have not even seen anything attached to the papers that show that there is even a CR (Crime Reference) number and who the complainant is

You have to be an idiot to believe that police have power to just walk into someone’s house, take over the house.
