Govt says it has surpassed ZimAsset road rehabilitation target despite the bad state of most roads in the country

Government has rehabilitated more than 70 000 km of roads in rural and resettlement areas, thereby surpassing 4 000 km target set in 2013 when the Zimbabwe Agenda for Sustainable Socio-Economic Transformation (Zim-Asset) was launched.

The announcement by Transport and Infrastructure Development Minister Dr Joram Gumbo come at a time when Harare City Council is considering introducing a fee for road maintenance following inadequate allocations from the Zimbabwe National Road Administration (Zinara). People in most urban and rural areas have expressed concern over the state of roads as Zinara concentrates more on the rehabilitation of highways.
