Five things you probably did not know about James Makamba

Today James Makamba celebrates his birthday. We celebrate with him by listing five things about him you probably did not know:

  1. He was born James Chafungamoyo Makamba and was the youngest of ten children (four boys, six girls)
  2. After completing school Makamba worked at the Catholic church in the then Salisbury and contemplated joining priesthood but his mother refused.
  3. Makamba worked for Rhodesian Broadcasting Corporation (RBC) where he did the voice for commercials
  4. James became a Councillor, then Town Board Chairman before becoming the publicity secretary of the Zimbabwe African National Union Patriotic Front (ZANU PF) in Mashonaland Central Province. Eventually he was appointed to the Zanu-PF Central Committee
  5. He has started a number of businesses. Makamba and a consortium of friends and associates owned Joy TV. He established Telecel Zimbabwe with Rwandan born Miko Rwayitare and Joel Gutt.
