A Zimbabwe Revenue Authority (Zimra) warehouse burned at Beitbridge Border Post yesterday morning destroying property worth thousands of dollars in the process. The building itself was not damaged. However, the authorities are yet to establish the cause of the fire.
An official who spoke to the Chronicle said:
We suspect the fire was a result of an electrical fault or poor ventilation.
A security official who was patrolling near the area saw some smoke coming from the building and went to investigate. He summoned other stakeholders who called the disaster response team and the fire was contained.
This is the third fire to take place at a Zimra warehouse. This has led some to speculate that, rogue elements may be using the fires to destroy evidence of corruption.
