The Ministry of Health and Child Care has dismissed rumours circulating on social media on the going trials to end HIV and AIDS at Harare and Chitungwiza Central Hospitals citing this as a mere social media hoax. Director HIV/AIDS and TB programme Dr Owen Mugurungi urged the public not to take the notice serious.
He said the unlawful and unethical research has not been approved by the Health Ministry or the Medical Research Council of Zimbabwe and urged persons on life saving anti-retroviral therapy to treat the rumours with suspicion.
According to the statement circulating on social media it is alleged that the Ministry of Health and Child Care is working in partnership with Terrence Higgins Trust in the United Kingdom (UK) towards treatment of HIV and AIDS. Upon registering with Harare and Chitungwiza Hospital volunteers will get US$100 and several exclusive treatments in UK.
