124 Malawians deported after detention in Zimbabwe jails

Zimbabwe deported 124 Malawians over the weekend.  The deportees failed to produce proper documentation and were detained in Zimbabwe jails.  Some deportees complained of ill-treatment in jail and claimed they spent up to three days without food.

Malawi Immigration spokesperson at Mwanza border Pasqually Zulu said:

The deported include 23 women, four children and 121 men.‎ They are from different parts of the country but many of them are from  Mangochi district.

This comes after  Harare East legislator Terrence Mukupe, promised to assist with the repatriation of Malawian citizens.  Foreign nationals are being kept inZimbabwean jails as the country has no money to deport them.
