Govt losing more than 21 million to ghost workers - PSC report

A Public Service Commission (PSC) report has revealed that Government is losing more than $21 million to ghost workers annually.

According to the PSC report, most of the ghost workers are in the primary and secondary education ministry with 2,207 employees recorded on the payroll who don’t exist. Next is the youth and empowerment ministry under President Robert Mugabe’s nephew Patrick Zhuwao which was said to have some 152 workers unaccounted for.

Zhuwao’s ministry and that for Women’s Affairs Gender and Community Development has thousands of workers doing the same job in the same wards around the country. According to the report, Zhuwao’s ministry employs a total 3,463 youth officers responsible for community project(s) planning whilst while the women’s ministry has 842employees doing the same job as ward development coordinators. Joseph Made’s Agriculture Ministry has 4,633 agricultural extension workers and 744 livestock production and development extension workers doing the same job.
