Teacher arrested for whipping pupil with plastic pipe

Nyasha Muyambo (51) who is a teacher at  Sandara Primary School in Gweru, was recently arrested for allegedly whipping a Grade Five pupil with a plastic pipe who had to be referred to Gweru General Hospital for treatment.

Muyambo pleaded not guilty when he appeared before Gweru Magistrate Ms Judith Taruvinga charged with ill-treatment of children and young persons and was remanded out of custody for trial on December 16. Prosecuting, Mr Jabulani Gwapedza said on November 9 at around 7AM at Sandara Primary School in Gweru’s Mambo suburb, the teacher assaulted the complainant while he was lying on a table after claiming that the pupil had urinated in a plastic container and had kept the plastic container in his satchel instead of going to the toilet.

The complainant went home with swollen buttocks and narrated told his mother what had happened while at school resulting in her reporting the matter at Mtapa Police Station.
