A special envoy of the Senegalese government, Abdul Azizi Tall, met President Robert Mugabe at State House in Harare on Wednesday afternoon to lobby Zimbabwe to support the Senegalese candidate for the African Union Commission chairmanship as a replacement for outgoing Dr Nkosazana Dhlamini Zuma.
Tall is also Minister responsible for monitoring his country’s economic blue print, the Plan for an Emerging Senegal. The Senegalese candidate, Professor Bathili Abdulaye will battle it out with four other candidates among them Botswana’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Dr Venison Moitoi, who was in the lead in the last voting round in July at the 27th AU Summit. Other candidates are from Equatorial Guinea, Chad and Kenya.
