Last week Thursday evening, suspected Zanu PF youths assaulted and seriously injured two girls, Fadzai Soka and Kudzai Aleta, who were selling wares near Munyuki Shopping Centre in Epworth, after the vendors questioned the authenticity of the $2 bond notes they wanted to use to buy.
Around 7pm the youths approached them demanding to be given some cigarettes and upon being asked for the money, the youths produced bond notes whose authenticity one of the girls questioned because of unfamiliar security features. Soka said after a scuffle with some of the youths several men came accusing her of refusing to accept bond notes and assaulted her and stole her mobile phone in the process. Aleta, said she refused to accept bond notes because she could not use them where she purchases her stock.
The girls allege that the police could not help them as some of the youths went ahead of the girls to the police station and accused them of stealing their money when they are the ones who had actually stolen from them.
