Kasukuwere approves 10 000 monthly salary for town clerk

Harare Mayor, Bernard Manyenyeni has revealed that Local Government Minister, Saviour Kasukuwere has approved a monthly salary of $10,475 for the position of Harare Town Clerk which is about half the $21,000 basic salary earned by the fired former Harare town clerk Tendai Mahachi.

Speaking at a Meet-the-Mayor end of year public gathering last week mayor Manyenyeni said the Town Clerk’s salary and allowances should be tied down to performance. Said Manyenyeni:

I have no problem with how much the Town Clerk is getting paid if he or she is doing their job. We must look at his performance and evaluate or equate it with the rewards in the form of salary or allowances, and this should be our only worry.

Harare has not had a Town Clerk for almost a year no, following the dismissal of Mahachi by Manyenyeni for insubordination and alleged corruption last year.
