Mphoko urges Zimbabweans not to forget sacrifices of the liberation struggle

In a speech read on his behalf by Defence Minister Sydney Sekeramai at the official opening of the Chibondo Exhibition in Mount Darwin, Acting President Phelekezela Mphoko urged Zimbabweans not to forget the sacrifices made during the liberation struggle.

Mphoko also spoke on the significance of the Chibondo exhumations which recovered at least 750 bodies of victims believed to have been murdered by the Rhodesian government. He also said dateable evidence collected during exhumation at Chibondo, showed that the massacres occurred between 1974 and 1978 which coincides with the intensification of the liberation war. Artefacts recovered included Rhodesian bank notes, newspapers, packets of Envoy cigarettes, which were popular in the 70’s, Super Pro brand shoes and registration certificates.
