Hlongwane criticises Chiyangwa for making hasty decision on relegation & promotion issue

Addressing a media conference in Harare yesterday, Minister of Sports and Recreation, Makhosini Hlongwane urged Zifa and the PSL to find a lasting solution to their conflict over relegation and promotion. He also said the timing for the announcement of the relegation procedure was not right.

Hlongwane also said that Government condemns the culture of making quick uninformed decisions. He said,

The Ministry of Sport and Recreation wishes to inform the nation that the events unfolding within the football sector in general and its administration in particular are of concern to the Government. We deplore, in the strongest terms possible, the culture of taking hasty decisions that seem to be informed by expediency rather than rational thoughtfulness.

The Minister said the football mother body should put their house in order as a matter of urgency. He also took time to point out that ZIFA is not a political organisation, it’s a football administration authority and that Government wants football leadership in the country to be cautious in terms of how they arrive at these decisions.
