Kasukuwere sends police officers to deliver suspension letters to Gweru Mayor & Councillors

Local Government minister Saviour Kasukuwere sent police officers to deliver suspension letters to Gweru Mayor, Hamutendi Kombayi and 10 other MDC-T councillors following their re-suspension after Kasukuwere withdrew a Supreme Court appeal on Monday, in which he was contesting a ruling by Bulawayo High Court judge, Justice Francis Bere, ordering him to reinstate the councillors.

Ward 16 councillor, Tawanda Magidi confirmed the incident to NewZimbabwe.com and said that he was surprised to have a police officer deliver a suspension letter to him on Tuesday. On Wednesday riot police was stationed at Town House to make sure councillors and their supporters did not enter council offices.

NewZimbabwe.com could not get police spokesperson Inspector Joel Goko for a comment although the councillor’s lawyer Reginald Chidawanyika of Chitere Chidawanyika and partners, said that they were considering taking legal action.
