Mafios backtracks on resolution to have Zanu PF Vice Presidents elected

Zanu PF Mashonaland Central acting provincial chairman Dickson Mafios yesterday backtracked on his attempt to pass a resolution that sought to strip President Robert Mugabe of his status as the one centre of power in the party with the mandate to appoint his two deputies.

Sources who attended the meeting told The Herald that Mafios who was facing a vote of no confidence said that the resolution was for 2019. They also told the publication that Zanu PF national commissar, Saviour Kasukuwere, chased away ZBCTv News crew before he said that the resolution had not been approved by the province. Kasukuwere had to call for separate meetings with the central committee and provincial executive members.

The sources said that Kasukuwere only called the ZBCTv crew when he wanted to attack The Herald’s coverage of the story. Provincial and district members who granted interviews to the media, were reportedly criticised by Kasukuwere. Before retracting his resolution, Mafios said that the province had decided and there was no turning back.
