Information and Communication Technology Minister, Supa Mandiwanzira yesterday warned mobile phone operators against fleecing customers and under-declaring profits.
Speaking during Wednesday’s question and answer session in Parliament, Mandiwanzira said the Postal and Telecommunication Regulatory Authority of Zimbabwe (Potraz) has installed equipment to monitor the quality of services from mobile phone operators and issues of data bundles mysteriously disappearing.
Mandiwanzira also alleged that there are companies that are under-declaring revenue on the amount of calls coming into the country,
We are concerned that there appears to be under declaration of revenue on the amount of calls that are coming into this country with an inflation of calls leaving where we have to pay forex outside. They then mobilise traffic in foreign markets to come to this country and they use related companies based in Mauritius and other places. Those then sell minutes into Zimbabwe at prices of up to 36 cents but they declare 22 cents.The same companies are used to buy bandwidth internationally and resell to companies in Zimbabwe so that a margin of revenue is kept outside. This is a warning to the companies that we are watching you and we are coming after you.
