Bulawayo City Council cashier in court for stealing $6 600

Henry Taderera (62) who is employed as the chief treasurer at Bulawayo City Council appeared in court yesterday facing 17 counts of theft. He was asked not to plead when he appeared before Bulawayo magistrate Tawanda Muchemwa on Saturday. The magistrate remanded him to November 30 for trial.

The court heard that on 17 occasions from October 28 to November 17 this year, an internal audit was conducted at the council’s revenue section. The audit revealed that the chief cashier under banked money paid to the local authority by $11 749, 99 between April and October this year. It was also revealed that the money was collected in full but when banking, Taderera under banked by amounts ranging from $50 to $2 500.
