4 500 pupils dropped out of school because of early marriages: Dokora

Minister of Primary and Secondary Education, Lazarus Dokora has revealed that 4 500 pupils dropped out of school because of early marriages.

In an interview with The Herald, the minister revealed that 3 650 females and 251 males in secondary schools dropped out of school nationwide. In primary schools, Zimbabwe lost 305 females and 13 males. Dokora said that there was a need to engage in campaigns against early marriages.

The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) Chief of Education in Zimbabwe Mr Peter de Vries urged Government to remain focused in the fight against early marriages.
