Bulawayo Metro Peech Wholesalers branch rejects cards and RTGS for customers buying cooking oil

Metro Peech Wholesalers in Bulawayo are rejecting plastic money and Real Time Gross Settlements (RTGS) from customers when buying cooking oil, claiming suppliers of the commodity are accepting cash payments only.

An employee at the wholesale who spoke to The Chronicle on condition of anonymity, said local cooking oil producers were demanding cash payments to import critical raw materials required in producing the commodity. Mr Eeben Ncube, who is a manager at the wholesale,  also confirmed the suspension of electronic payments such as plastic money on cooking oil from their customers.

A carried out by Business Chronicle in Bulawayo yesterday revealed that three of the city’s other wholesalers were accepting electronic payments on cooking oil and other products. Efforts by The Chronicle to get comments from Oil Expressers’ Association of Zimbabwe and United Refineries were fruitless.
