UZ students released after paying $10 fine

Two University of Zimbabwe students who were arrested yesterday for demonstrating during the graduation ceremony have been released. The Zimbabwe Lawyers for Human Rights (ZLHR) gave confirmation on the release of Tonderai Dombo and Alexander Makamba who were being represented by Advocate Mtisi. According to a statement by Patson Dzamara the two were being charged with criminal nuisance.

ZLHR said that the two were released after paying a $10 fine,

UZ students who were arrested yesterday while demonstrating during a graduation ceremony were released today after paying a fine of $10.

Dombo was arrested after raising a placard demanding jobs. Higher Education Minister Jonathan Moyo threatened to take away Dombo’s degree following the protest.
