A 22-year-old woman from Plumtree is emotionally shattered after her seven-day-old baby was allegedly kidnapped on Monday at Plumtree Hospital by a female stranger she met while going for a routine check-up.
CITE reported that the accused is a woman who claimed to the baby’s mother that she too, had a child who was admitted at the hospital.
The name of the mother of the missing child has been withheld as Police investigations are ongoing.
In an interview with CITE’s <a href="https://cite.org.zw/author/senzeni/">Senzeni Ncube</a>, Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) spokesperson in Matabeleland South Province, Inspector Loveness Mangena confirmed the incident. She said:

On 6 May 2024 around 2 pm, the complainant went with her seven-day-old baby to Plumtree Hospital for routine checkups. She met the unknown woman and suspects that the accused can be around 26 years old.
The mother said the description of the woman is (she looked) clean, brown in complexion, height of about 1.6 metres. The woman was wearing a green top and a pink skirt

Inspector Mangena said as the two women conversed, the accused claimed she also had a child who was admitted at Plumtree Hospital. Added Insp. Mangena:

She then asked the complainant to buy her some bananas and some soft drinks at the hospital gate, the complainant went to buy them, leaving the baby in the custody of the accused. When she returned, this accused person was nowhere to be found.
</blockquote>
Insp. Mangena has appealed to members of the public who might have information that can lead to the arrest of this person to report to any nearest police station.
The grandfather of the missing baby told CITE that his daughter first met up with the accused by the gate when she was going to collect some lunch money from her grandmother. He said:

My daughter had gone to hospital with her mother (my wife) who then had to leave her at the hospital as she had to prepare for another child going to school.
My daughter then asked for lunch money from her mother who then sent someone to go and give her.
It was on my daughter’s way to fetch that money that she first met up with the accused person who asked her the age of her baby before parting ways.
When my daughter returned to the queue she found the accused also in the queue without a baby claiming her child was admitted at the hospital, and then they started chatting.

The grandfather explained that as time went by, the woman told his daughter that she was hungry and wanted bananas so she asked her to go and buy the bananas at the gate. He said:

My daughter then left this woman with the baby together with the baby’s cards. When she came back she found the woman together with the baby gone.
She told the nurses about the incident, and they searched all the wards but couldn’t locate her. They then reported the matter to the police.

In Zimbabwe, cases where individuals, including maids, have kidnapped babies or stolen them from their homes are not uncommon.
In March this year, the wife of a retired senior police officer from Gweru was sentenced to 18 months imprisonment for kidnapping an infant aged two months.
Sakhile Tanyanyiwa (34), who is the wife of former Police Commissioner Mekia Tanyanyiwa, appeared before the Gweru Magistrates Court on Tuesday, 12 March facing charges of kidnapping.
Tanyanyiwa will, however, serve an effective 12 months in prison after the court conditionally suspended 6 months for 5 years.

Stranger Steals Newborn From A Trusting Mother At Plumtree Hospital

Eleven (11) people, including two foreigners and a church bishop from Harare, have been arrested for allegedly kidnapping a Chinese businessman and demanding a US$ 120,000 ransom for his release.
The suspects, who posed as police officers, kidnapped the man before demanding US$ 120,000 ransom from his relatives.
<a href="https://www.herald.co.zw/11-kidnap-businessman-demand-us120k/">The Herald</a> identified the suspects as Guo Zairen (34), Wang Gao (40), Primrose Miga (34), Charles Matondo (46), Tonderai Naison Kaja (34), Charles Notice (34), Christopher Chirombe (34), O’brian Miti (31), Simbarashe Kumba (24), Carlington Konselia (28) and Oswel Tinotenda Tsikai (29).
They appeared before Harare magistrate Dennis Mangosi on Friday, 19 April, facing kidnapping charges.
The State opposed bail arguing that the suspects could flee the court’s jurisdiction.
Investigating officer, Detective Gentle Tapererwa, also said the 11 suspects were not proper candidates for bail. He said:

Some of the accused persons exhibited signs that they are capable of fleeing if freed since they tried to escape from police officers.
</blockquote>
Magistrate Mangosi deferred the matter to Monday for bail ruling.
Allegations are that on April 17 at around 3 PM, the suspects hatched a plan to kidnap the complainant and demand a ransom.
Five of the suspects and Tendai Notice, who is still at large, went to a Chinese restaurant in Belgravia driving a white Toyota Fortuner whose registration numbers are unknown but was being driven by Guo.
They also had a Toyota Belta, whose registration number is also unknown, but was being driven by Tendai Notice.
The complainant, Cheng Song, was at the restaurant having lunch with his friend, Tu Muqing. Guo and Wang allegedly showed Kaja, Chirombe and Miti, the complainant who in turn confronted him and introduced themselves as police officers.
It is further alleged that the suspects then claimed that Cheng was under arrest, but did not notify him of his offence.
The suspects allegedly handcuffed him and forced him into their Toyota Belta and drove away, leaving Tu Muqing behind.
They took Cheng to House Number 1, Montenes Drive, Mandara, Harare, where Miga, Matondo, Kumba, Konselia and Tsikai were waiting for them.
Tu Muqing then phoned and informed Cheng’s cousin sister, Wang Yanan, that Cheng had been arrested by police officers.
Cheng also sent his Google Maps location to Wang Yanan, through a Chinese WeChat internet platform, seeking assistance from her.
Wang Yanan then contacted Superintendent Victor Phiri of the Zimbabwe Republic Police and sought assistance to be escorted to the said police station.
It is alleged that Supt Phiri met with Wang Yanan and on checking the Google Maps location, he discovered that there were no police stations close by.
In fact, Google Maps showed that the location was a place in a bushy area adjacent to Chikurubi Maximum Security Prison.
The court heard that at that moment, Wang Yanan received a phone call on her WeChat platform from Cheng who told her that he was being held hostage by the suspects.
He said the “police officers” were prohibiting him from using ordinary voice calls or the WhatsApp platform.
Cheng further told her that the suspects were demanding a ransom of US$120 000, which was to be delivered to them promptly to ensure he was not going to be harmed by them, and eventually be deported.
It is further alleged that after about 15 minutes, the suspects used Cheng’s cell phone and contacted Wang Yanan and ordered her to drive to the Google Maps location.
Supt Phiri alerted CID Homicide Harare of the kidnapping and extortion and they swiftly reacted and waylaid the suspects at the given Google Maps location.
The court heard that Charles Notice, Chirombe, Konselia and Tsikai arrived driving a Toyota Fortuner, registration number AEN 4346 and ordered Wang Yanan to follow their vehicle and they drove off at high speed.
The detectives followed the suspects’ vehicle and drove along Arcturus Road, Greendale, and identified themselves as police detectives, before ordering them to pull over.
The suspects allegedly increased the speed of their vehicle to evade arrest, prompting the detectives to fire warning shots, but they continued driving at high speed.
This resulted in the police officers firing towards the vehicle, leading to the driver losing control and plunging into a ditch. They were then arrested.
The suspects led the police to House Number 1, Montenes Drive in Mandara where they found Cheng being guarded by some of the suspects.
He was then rescued by the police.

Gang Kidnaps Chinese Businessman, Demands $120k Ransom

A mushikashika crew, a driver and his conductor have been arrested for allegedly kidnapping and assaulting two traffic police officers in Waterfalls, Harare.
The suspects, Kudakwashe Chigeregomo (23) and Emmanuel Denhere (18), both residents of Kuwadzana, kidnapped and assaulted Constables Godknows Maretawona (36) and Isaac Manjokoto (33), who are stationed at the Mbare Traffic Police Station.
The two police officers were at an intersection in Waterfalls, where they were deployed to maintain order at the busy intersection.
The cops arrested the pirate taxi driver and his conductor who were illegally carrying passengers in a grey Nissan AD van (AGE 6658) without an operator’s licence.
The two police officers boarded the car and ordered Kudakwashe to drive to Mbare Traffic Police Post at Masteps in Hopley.
Rather than complying with the police officers’ instructions, Kudakwashe drove the vehicle toward the east along Forbes Road, ultimately colliding with a precast wall of a house, which brought the vehicle to a halt.
Both Kudakwashe and Emmanuel attacked the two police officers, repeatedly striking them on the head and face with unidentified objects.
The assault was captured on video and shared widely on social media by an unidentified individual.
The cops eventually called for backup from their office and managed to subdue the suspects.
They sustained head injuries from the assault and were rushed to Sally Mugabe Hospital for treatment.
Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi confirmed the arrest of the two men, adding that investigations into the matter are ongoing.

Mushikashika Crew Arrested For Kidnapping And Assaulting Cops In Harare

A couple has been arrested for allegedly kidnapping a two-month-old baby in Gweru from its mother, who was provided a lift from the hospital to the Central Business District (CBD).
According to a police memorandum seen by <a href="https://cite.org.zw/gweru-couple-nabbed-for-kidnapping-two-month-old-baby-from-mother-leaving-hospital/">CITE</a>, Sakhile Tanyanyiwa (34), a student at Midlands State University and her husband Mekia Tanyanyiwa (59), a retired Zimbabwe Republic Police commissioner who is now self-employed, have been charged with kidnapping as defined in Section 93(1) (b) (i) (ii) of the Criminal Law (Codification and Reform) Act Chapter 9:23.
The informant in this case is the 31-year-old mother of the two-month-old baby, who is recorded as the complainant in the police memo.
The police memo said on 08 March 2024, the mother had taken her daughter (whose names have been withheld to protect their identity) to the hospital to obtain her birth record. Read the memo:
As (she) arrived at Gweru Provincial Hospital main gate, she met Sakhile Tanyanyiwa, a female adult, light in complexion, medium built, appearing to be in the early 30s of age and was wearing a red and blue floral dress.
Sakhile inquired about the directions to the maternity ward and (the mother) gave her the directions and proceeded with her mission to obtain the birth record.
After she was served, the mother returned to the main gate where she wanted to look for transport to the Gweru Central Business District.
Sakhile emerged from the hospital direction driving a Toyota Aqua and offered her a lift. Reads the memo:

(The mother) got inside the car and while inside she discovered that there were two more ladies whose body appearance and dressing she did not notice.
One was seated at the front passenger’s seat and the other was seated at the right back while Sakhile was driving. Loreen sat on the left side of the back seat.
The one seated in the front passenger’s seat was holding what appeared like a newlyborn baby wrapped in nappies and she looked as if she was from giving birth. All the way she was behaving like she was in birth pain.
</blockquote>
On the way to town, Sakhile told the mother that she wanted to pass through Southview, to drop her sister before proceeding. Said the memo:

While in Southview, the vehicle was parked by the gate at an unknown address purporting to drop her sister and (the mother) was asked to assist a female passenger who was holding a newly born baby.
(The mother) put her child on the seat and disembarked from the vehicle to go and offer help as requested.
</blockquote>
It is at that time that the vehicle sped off at high speed towards the Gweru to Bulawayo road together with two month old and the mother’s belongings that included an Itel A56 cellphone.
The mother screamed for help and a male adult managed to record the vehicle registration’s number and proceeded to make a report at ZRP Gweru Central.
The Police established that the vehicle registered under Glandina Nhamo’s name, had changed hands multiple times before ending up with Mekia, who was found with the baby. Reads the report:

Mekia was interviewed and he implicated his wife Sakhile Tanyanyiwa nee Tshuma as the one who was in possession of the motor vehicle in question.
</blockquote>
He added that the vehicle was brought to Harare whilst being driven by an unknown female who later escaped into the darkness.
When police contacted the mother, she positively identified her child, her bag with baby clothes and the child’s birth record. Says the memo:

(The baby) was taken to Gweru Provincial Hospital for examination and was found to be stable. She was later reunited with her mother.
The motor vehicle Toyota Aqua registration number (number withheld) was seized and is held at the station as an exhibit.
</blockquote>
The police memo says when Sakhile was lured to CID Gweru for interviews, she implicated her friend Soneni Nyoni as the one whom she left with the vehicle in question whilst she was going to Masvingo.
Police said investigations continue, with efforts to locate Nyoni while the Tanyanyiwa couple will proceed to court.

Two-month-old Baby Kidnapped In Gweru Reunited With Mum

A self-styled traditional healer, and her two friends, were on Thursday kidnapped and assaulted by seven people for allegedly giving a fake cleansing ceremony to one of their assailants.
The traditional healer identified as Gogo Gamuchirai Gwenhamo, 34, of Epworth, her ex-lover Isaac Chihoro, 38, of Sunningdale 2 and her friend Abel Bango, 50, of Riddle Ridge Park, allegedly gave the fake cleansing ceremony to Abba Chidagomo, 39, of Retreat, Waterfalls.
Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) acting spokesperson in Harare Province, Assistant Inspector Faith Mapisa, told <a href="https://www.hmetro.co.zw/traditional-healer-kidnapped-over-fake-cleansing/">H-Metro</a> that Isaac and Abel allegedly narrated Abba’s life to Gogo Gamuchirai to fake the cleansing.
Abba reportedly teamed up with Admos Mpofu, 33, Collen Gumbato, 39, Naison Nyamashuka, 39, Tendai Hamadziripi, 34, Bright Svakaya, 47, and Fungai Ndoora, 44, to kidnap the three.
Assistant Inspector Faith Mapisa said the accused were arrested at the Mabvuku turn-off. She said:

Police arrested seven suspects in connection with the kidnapping of three people including a traditional healer.
Circumstances are that on January 18, at around 1000 hours, the accused persons approached the traditional healer accusing her of giving one of the accused a fake cleansing ceremony.
The accused persons went on to assault and interrogate the healer who confessed that her ex-boyfriend and his friend were behind the deal because they supplied classified information concerning the client’s misfortunes.
The accused persons ordered the healer to invite the second and third complainants to come and collect their share from the US$1500 she had charged.
Upon arrival at the healer’s place, the duo fell into the accused person’s trap and they were kidnapped, bundled into a white Subaru registration (AFY 5516) and taken to a bushy area in Sunway City where they were assaulted all over their bodies using electrical cables, baton sticks and clenched fists.
The complainants then convinced the accused persons to drive them to the Mabvuku turn-off where they intended to meet a relative who would assist them with the required amount leading to their arrest.

In Zimbabwe, there are many reported incidences where bogus traditional healers have defrauded members of the public after claiming they have the power to solve their spiritual challenges.
The Zimbabwe National Traditional Healers Association (ZINATHA) represents traditional healers in the country and all practitioners are supposed to register with the organisation.

Traditional Healer Kidnapped And Assaulted Over Fake Cleansing

The kombi driver who is accused of kidnapping 25 pupils from David Livingstone Primary School in Harare was on Saturday, 20 January, remanded in custody by a Harare magistrate who further ordered a mental examination to be conducted on him.
Samuel Honde (60), was arrested in Macheke on Thursday in an alleged kidnapping attempt on 25 David Livingstone Primary School learners.
Honde appeared before Harare magistrate Letwin Rwodzi who directed the State to proceed in terms of Section 26 of the Mental Health Act, reported <a href="https://www.zimlive.com/mental-examination-ordered-on-david-livingstone-school-kidnapping-suspect/">ZimLive</a>.
He is now set to be examined by two State doctors before he returns to court.
According to the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi, Honde was contracted by various parents, since 2016, to ferry learners to and from David Livingstone Primary School to their homes in greater Harare.
He lives at Seventh Day Adventist church in Kuwadzana, Harare.
After picking up the 25 learners (14 girls and 11 boys) at the school, Honde drove towards Macheke instead of driving the learners to their respective homes in Kuwadzana and surrounding areas.
The vehicle was spotted by other motorists who reported to the police after seeing the minors crying in a stationary Nissan Caravan on the busy highway.
The vehicle had stopped after running out of fuel.
Honde was then arrested for kidnapping and taken to Macheke Police Station.
The children were reunited with their parents after they were referred to Marondera Provincial Hospital for medical examination.
Honde is set to return to court on 02 February 2024.

Magistrate Orders Mental Examination On Kombi Driver Who "Abducted" 25 ECD Learners

<a href="https://pindula.co.zw/Linda_Masarira">Linda Masarira</a>, the leader of LEAD Party, has suggested that the alleged abduction of CCC MP Takudzwa Ngadziore was staged in a bid to cast the spotlight on Zimbabwe ahead of the SADC Extraordinary Summit which resumes in Luanda, Angola on Saturday, 04 November 2023.
Ngadziore recorded the alleged abduction incident live on Facebook as the gunmen chased after him in Harare on 01 November.
CC deputy spokesperson Gift Siziba later posted on X saying Ngadziore was tortured and dumped in Christon Bank in Mazoe.
However, Masarira said the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) should investigate the alleged abduction, saying it “doesn’t make sense at all” that the State would abduct Ngadziore, assault him and dump him for no reason. She wrote on X:

On a serious note, what threat does Takudzwa Ngadziore pose to the state that he would be allegedly abducted and dumped like what CCC Cdes are saying?
Is the state so gullible to just abduct, assault and dump for no reason? This story doesn’t make sense at all.
A few months ago, someone was attacked by men who he had stepped toes on a Rufaro marketing deal, and it was alleged that it is the system.
Even those who get assaulted after having differences with their own friends or partners claim it is CIO or ZANU PF.
My appeal is for [ZRP] to look for the man with the gun and investigate this case thoroughly. His face is very visible, and we need to get to the bottom of all these shenanigans that continue to pose a non-existent threat to our political economy.

Masarira queried why abductions of opposition activists “always” happen just before some regional or international meeting, implying that Ngadziore staged the kidnapping. She said:

Is it a coincidence that these abductions always happen a few days before some regional or international meeting? ZANU or CIO always strikes when SADC, AU, UN or any international forum?
I am game to manhunt the man with the gun, let us look for him and effect a citizen’s arrest.
</blockquote>
She, however, didn’t indicate how unarmed citizens can arrest a man armed with an assault rifle.
The SADC virtual Extra-Ordinary Summit held on Tuesday, 31 October adjourned after preliminary discussions on the political and security situation in the Democratic Republic of Congo.
Later that day, the SADC Secretariat in Gaborone, Botswana issued a statement saying the SADC leaders decided to resume the discussions in Luanda, Angola on Saturday.

Takudzwa Ngadziore's Alleged Abduction Doesn't Make Sense - Linda Masarira

A woman who claims to be a prophetess is currently on the run after kidnapping a client’s baby in Mutare on October 6, 2023. The Mutare police are requesting assistance from the public in locating the suspect, identified as Madzimai Getrude.
A police report seen by Pindula News said the incident took place at a shrine near Mutare Teachers College, where the suspect asked the complainant to fetch herbs for the baby’s supposed healing. Read the report:

Police in Mutare are appealing for information which may lead to the arrest of a self proclaimed prophetess, only identified as Madzimai Getrude, who is being sought in connection with a case of kidnapping which occurred at a shrine near Mutare Teachers College on 06/10/23.
The suspect went away with the complainant’s baby after sending her to find some herbs which were to be allegedly used to heal the baby who was not feeling well. Anyone with information to report to any nearest Police Station.

Self-proclaimed Prophetess On The Run After Kidnapping A Baby

A pupil at Shabani Primary School in Zvishavane, Midlands Province recently survived a kidnapping attempt by two masked men while on her way home.
The suspects reportedly followed the girl from behind, sprayed a white substance in her face, and tried to shove her into their car.
The incident was revealed in a letter by the school’s headmistress who went on to implore parents to ensure their children were also safe outside school premises.
In a letter addressed to parents, the school head, who only signed off as Matutu, said the attempted kidnapping took place on 08 June.
Matutu, however, did not disclose what Grade the child was or her age. <a href="https://www.zimlive.com/primary-school-pupil-survives-kidnapping-incident/">Part of the letter reads</a>:

Two men wearing face masks and driving a car followed a child after school and grabbed and doused her with a whitish substance.
The child was only released and saved when another car approached from behind forcing the two men to flee from the scene.
The child lost her voice and regained it the following day…
In light of the above near tragedy, the school is advising all parents to seriously consider the safety of their children to and from school, and ensure you find reliable and reputable transporters.

Police in Harare are investigating a case of kidnapping in which a Grade Six pupil aged 11 was kidnapped while going to school by four unknown suspects who were travelling in a black Toyota Noah on Monday at around 6.30 AM in Glen View.
The victim was later dumped along 13th Avenue in Glen View 3.

In another case of kidnapping, a 12-year-old Grade Seven learner was abducted in Chinhoyi.
The victim was kidnapped near Chengetanai Old People’s Home by three unknown suspects travelling in a white kombi. The victim was later dumped in Avlon Park.
In March this year, a 12-year-old girl was abducted while she was looking for transport near a primary school in Eastlea, Harare.
Three unknown assailants in a blue Toyota Hiace were involved in the kidnapping.
The girl managed to escape from the three men after they had parked the vehicle in the Hillside area and hid in a nearby maize field.
Here are <a href="https://myhealth.alberta.ca/Health/Pages/conditions.aspx?hwid=ue5155">some tips parents and guardians</a> can teach their children to avoid being kidnapped:

<li>Stay away from strangers.</li>
<li>Stay away from anyone who is following you on foot or in a car.</li>
<li>Run and scream if someone tries to force you to go somewhere with them or tries to push you into a car.</li>
<li>Memorize a secret code word. Tell your child not to go with anyone under any circumstances unless that person also knows this code word.</li>
<li>You don’t need to help an adult. For example, a child shouldn’t trust grown-ups who ask kids for directions or for help finding a puppy or kitten.</li>
<li>Always ask for permission before going anywhere with anybody.</li>
<li>Tell your parents where you are going.</li>

Primary Schoolgirl Survives Kidnapping Incident

Police have expressed concern over cases of kidnapping in which schoolchildren are being targeted.
This comes after two pupils aged 11 and 12 were kidnapped in separate incidents in Harare and Chinhoyi recently.
Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) national spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi said Police are investigating the cases. He said:

Police in Harare are investigating a case of kidnapping in which a Grade Six pupil aged 11 was kidnapped while going to school by four unknown suspects who were travelling in a black Toyota Noah on Monday at around 6.30 AM in Glen View.
The victim was later dumped along 13th Avenue in Glen View 3.

In another case of kidnapping, a 12-year-old Grade Seven learner was abducted in Chinhoyi on Tuesday.
The victim was kidnapped near Chengetanai Old People’s Home by three unknown suspects travelling in a white kombi. The victim was later dumped in Avlon Park.
In March this year, a 12-year-old girl was abducted while she was looking for transport near a primary school in Eastlea, Harare.
Three unknown assailants in a blue Toyota Hiace were involved in the kidnapping.
The girl managed to escape from the three men after they had parked the vehicle in the Hillside area and hid in a nearby maize field.
Here are <a href="https://myhealth.alberta.ca/Health/Pages/conditions.aspx?hwid=ue5155">some tips parents and guardians</a> can teach their children to avoid being kidnapped:

<li>Stay away from strangers.</li>
<li>Stay away from anyone who is following you on foot or in a car.</li>
<li>Run and scream if someone tries to force you to go somewhere with them or tries to push you into a car.</li>
<li>Memorize a secret code word. Tell your child not to go with anyone under any circumstances unless that person also knows this code word.</li>
<li>You don’t need to help an adult. For example, a child shouldn’t trust grown-ups who ask kids for directions or for help finding a puppy or kitten.</li>
<li>Always ask for permission before going anywhere with anybody.</li>
<li>Tell your parents where you are going.</li>

Kidnappers Target Schoolchildren

Police in Midlands Province have arrested a 16-year-old housemaid who was employed in Zvishavane for kidnapping her employer’s eight-month-old baby and for stealing from her.
The maid kidnapped the baby a day after she was employed.
ZRP Midlands provincial spokesperson Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko confirmed the arrest to <a href="https://www.newzimbabwe.com/https-www-newzimbabwe-com-maid-arrested-after-kidnapping-employers-eight-month-old-baby-a-day-after-being-hired/">NewZimbabwe.com</a>, saying the maid is from Mushandike Resettlement Scheme in Masvingo. He said:

The Zimbabwe Republic Police confirms the arrest of a female juvenile aged 16 of Village 15 Mushandike Resettlement Scheme, Masvingo, in connection with a case of kidnapping after she stole an eight-month-old baby.
In brief, the circumstances are that on 9 April 2023, the suspect, Evidence Hove got employed as a domestic maid by Memory Sibanda aged 38 in Mandava Township in Zvishavane.
The following morning on 10 April 2023 she was left taking care of four children aged 14, 12, 8 years and the youngest aged 8 months, while the employer went away.

Police said soon after the employer left, Evidence stole US$60 and went away with the eight-month-old Junior Marenga leaving the other three children behind.
Sibanda was informed about the incident and when the maid failed to return a report was made to ZRP Zvishavane.
The police arrested the maid on 12 April at around 10 AM at Village 7 Sovelele in Sandawana, with the baby in her custody.
Police took the victim to Zvishavane District Hospital for examinations.
Inspector Mahoko urged members of the public to ensure that they employ housemaids who have traceable records.
He said prospective employers should have their maids vetted by police before employing them. This service is done freely at any police station.
He also implored parents and guardians not to entrust or leave their children under the custody of strangers.

Housemaid (16) Kidnaps Employee's Baby A Day After Being Hired

A 16-year-old girl from Gokwe who was allegedly abducted by suspected ZANU PF supporters was dumped in Kadoma.
Chairmaine Chiremba, a learner at Njelele High School, was kidnapped in the early hours of Wednesday according to her father Christopher.
Christopher told the <a href="https://newsday.co.zw/southerneye/local-news/article/200009575/abducted-gokwe-girl-dumped-in-kadoma">Southern Eye</a> that Chairmaine was at Kadoma Police Station. He said:

I am currently getting information that she is housed at Kadoma police and is safe.
She was dumped along the highway by a black (Toyota) Wish car with no number plates.
She is still in custody at Kadoma Police Station and they said they are making arrangements to ferry her to Gokwe centre.

He said they realised Charmaine was missing when her mother went to wake her up to prepare for school. 
Her mother found blood stains on the veranda of their bedroom and a note written ‘usivhotela ZANU PF mwana tatora’.
The note was written in a Shona dialect spoken in Gokwe, translated to “you should vote for ZANU PF, we have taken the child”.
Chiremba suspects his child was targeted because, in 2013, his wife contested for councillor under the MDC-T banner and lost. He added:

Abducted Gokwe Girl (16) Found In Kadoma

A 16-year-old girl from Gokwe went missing on Wednesday and her parents suspect she was abducted by ZANU PF supporters.
Christopher Chiremba told <a href="https://www.zimlive.com/girl-16-gone-missing-parents-suspect-abducted-by-zanu-pf-supporters/">ZimLive</a> that his daughter Charmaine Chiremba, a Form Three learner at Njelele High School, went missing in the early hours of Wednesday. He said:

On Wednesday morning, we heard footsteps outside our house.

Gokwe Girl (16) Gone Missing, Parents Fear She Was Abducted By ZANU PF Supporters

A caretaker at a church in Bulawayo was arrested for allegedly kidnapping, drugging, and raping a 15-year-old girl, reported <a href="https://www.bmetro.co.zw/teen-kidnapped-drugged-and-raped-by-church-caretaker/">B-Metro</a>.
The suspect, Mkhululi Ndlovu (42) appeared before Bulawayo regional magistrate Dambudzo Malunga facing two counts of rape and kidnapping.
Ndlovu pleaded not guilty to both counts and was remanded in custody to 28 March 2023.
Prosecutor Constance Mathaba said on 08 November 2022, Ndlovu met the teenage girl near her home in Nkulumane suburb.
He allegedly grabbed her and placed a knife on her throat while forcing her to sniff a white powder.
The white substance is suspected to be a drug, crystal meth, popularly known as guka or mutoriro.
It was further alleged that the frightened girl sniffed the powder and after that, she fell unconscious.
She was shocked when she woke up the following morning in Ndlovu’s house naked, with the white powder on the bed.
In court, she said Ndlovu forced her to sniff the powder and after that, she would feel drowsy and gradually fall unconscious.
The court heard that the girl would wake up naked with signs she had engaged in sex and she would see used condoms on the floor.
It was further alleged that each time Ndlovu went out of the room he would lock her inside the house.
The girl escaped when Ndlovu asked her to accompany him to a house in Old Lobengula suburb to buy drugs.
The court heard that when Mdlovu was buying the drugs the girl ran out of the house and went to a police station and reported the incident.
Ndlovu was later arrested at the church premises.

Church Caretaker Kidnaps, Drugs And Rapes Teenager

A 12-year-old girl narrowly escaped possible injury, or worse, after she evaded three men who had kidnapped her while she was looking for transport near a primary school in Eastlea last Friday.
The three assailants dragged the girl into a blue Toyota Hiace and drove away.
She, however, managed to escape from the three men after they had parked the vehicle in the Hillside area.
The girl hid in a nearby maize field. A report was later made to the police.
Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi confirmed the kidnapping to <a href="https://www.herald.co.zw/girl-12-escapes-from-jaws-of-kidnappers/">The Herald</a>.
He said the incident occurred around 1 PM at the main gate of a primary school in Eastlea. Said Asst Comm Nyathi:

Female Learner (12) Dragged Into Kombi By Kidnappers At School Gate

Police in Mpumalanga have arrested a 43-year-old undocumented Zimbabwean national and charged him with kidnapping, extortion, armed robbery, and illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition.
The unnamed 43-year-old was arrested at Botleng, Delmas, on Friday, <a href="https://www.iol.co.za/news/crime-and-courts/zimbabwean-arrested-in-mpumalanga-for-kidnapping-and-demanding-ransom-6cfa92ac-1bb5-470a-ab4b-a0f0091b9eff">IOL</a> reported citing Mpumalanga police spokesperson, Brigadier Selvy Mohlala. He is cited as saying:

The suspect was arrested hours after a 32-year-old victim was kidnapped and a ransom demanded for his release.
</blockquote>
Mohlala added that the 32-year-old victim visited a friend in Botleng on Thursday. 
He left the friend’s place just before 10 pm, according to Mohlala. 
Less than 30 minutes after his departure, the friend allegedly received a call from his visitor’s phone who could be heard screaming that he has been abducted.
Then someone was heard over the phone demanding ransom for his friend’s release.
Mohlala said after receiving the call, the host friend approached the police and reported the case. 
It is alleged that more of the victim’s friends also reported to the police that they received strange calls with a demand for ransom for the victim’s release.
A team of investigators, including officers from SAPS crime intelligence and hostage negotiators, was assembled.
On Friday, January 6, 2023, the victim arrived at the police station after he was released at about 3 pm. He was interviewed and it was established that his mobile phone was still in the hands of the suspect.
Investigations led authorities to a location in Botleng where the suspect fitting the description given by the victim was found.
Investigations further revealed that the firearm was reported missing during a business robbery that took place in Pretoria in 2020.
The arrested suspect will appear in the Delmas Magistrate’s Court on Monday.

South Africa: Zimbabwean Arrested For Kidnapping, Robbery

Police in Bulawayo have arrested Kimberly Ncube (pictured), a 19-year-old girl who was employed as a housemaid in Paddonhurst suburb.
Ncube allegedly kidnapped her employer’s one-year eight-month-old son and also stole the family’s vehicle which was parked at their house on Monday.
Posting on their official Twitter page this Tuesday, ZRP said both the child and vehicle were recovered. The child was found in good health and has since been reunited with his family. Police said:

The ZRP confirms the arrest of a maid, Kimberley Ncube (19) in connection with cases of kidnapping a baby boy (1 year 8 months) and theft of a white Sedan BMW 328i vehicle, registration number AEA 8833 which occurred on 31/10/22 at her employer’s residence along Mackenzie Road, Paddonhurst. The arrest led to the recovery of the stolen vehicle and the reunion of the baby with his family.

It has not yet been revealed where the maid was found with the child or the motive behind the abduction.

Maid Kidnaps Baby And Steals Employer's Car

Five male bogus Zimbabwean taxi association patrollers were arrested in Randburg, South Africa, for extortion and kidnapping this week.
The Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department (JMPD) spokesperson Xolani Fihla confirmed that their Undercover Reaction Unit had arrested the suspects. Said Fihla:

On Wednesday, 26 October 2022, officers received information of suspects pretending to be taxi association patrollers affiliated with PRS taxi association in Pretoria, who were extorting money from unsuspecting motorists giving lifts to hitchhikers in the Randburg area.
Further information was received that the suspects were driving around in a silver-grey Volvo S40.

He said on 24 October, a case docket was opened at Randburg SAPS as the Zimbabwean men had extorted money from a truck owner at the Randburg Driving License Testing Centre. Explained Fihla:

Whilst on patrol along Malibongwe Drive and the N1 searching for the suspects, officers identified the vehicle matching the description used in the commission of the crime. They tactically approached and stopped the vehicle.

Fihla said police officers arrested more suspects linked to the syndicate that had been terrorising the community of Randburg. He said:

SA: Five Bogus Zimbabwean Taxi Association Inspectors Arrested

Four (4) female Zimbabwe Revenue Authority (ZIMRA) employees were reportedly abducted and held for ransom in Musina, South Africa, on Monday night.
The victims, who work at the Beitbridge border post, had entered South Africa at around 3 PM to do some shopping and were all in ZIMRA uniforms.
<a href="https://www.zimlive.com/2022/09/4-zimra-officers-kidnapped-held-for-ransom-in-south-africa/">ZimLive</a> reported a source as saying the four we kidnapped at gunpoint and robbed of all their possessions before ransom demands were made. Said the source:

They were all in ZIMRA uniform. The kidnappers must have known who their targets were.
The kidnappers demanded R10 000 to free them, but they didn’t have the money on them.
The ZIMRA officers were made to contact their colleagues at the border and one of them had an FNB account, and a transfer was effected.
… The kidnappers were apparently Zimbabwean because they spoke Shona.

The ZIMRA officers were reportedly released at around 12 AM on Tuesday.
Limpopo Police spokesperson Brigadier Motlafela Mojapelo had not confirmed the incident on Tuesday while a ZIMRA spokesman said they were still gathering details.

Four ZIMRA Officials Kidnapped, Held For Ransom In SA By "Zimbabweans"

A Zimbabwean father based in South Africa is reportedly on the run with his daughter, without the mother’s permission.
South African Police Service (SAPS) spokesperson Joseph Swartbooi said they are looking for Zvidzai Genius Matavikwa, who allegedly took his two-year-old daughter Mika Zonke on Saturday, July 2, from his ex-girlfriend.
Matavikwa was supposed to return the child later that day but never did and attempts to find him since then have been unsuccessful. Said SAPS:

Nyanga Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences unit are seeking assistance from the public in a bid to locate the wanted suspect.
According to reports, a Zimbabwean foreign national, known as Zvidzai Genius Matavikwa took his two-year-old daughter Mika Zonke on Saturday, July 2, 2022, from his ex-girlfriend, who is the mother of the victim.
He told her that he intended to spoil his daughter for the day. Zvidzai never returned his daughter as agreed, after he left with her.
Attempts to make contact with Zvidzai, in a bid to return the daughter, were unsuccessful.
The mother of the daughter reported the incident on Thursday, July 7, 2022, and a missing person’s report was filed for further investigation.

SA-based Zimbabwean Father On The Run With His Daughter

The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has confirmed the arrest of two men in Mutoko for allegedly kidnapping four primary school children.
In a statement, ZRP Senior Staff Officer (Press and Public Relations), Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi, said police are conducting investigations to establish the motive behind the kidnappings. He said:

The Zimbabwe Republic Police confirms the arrest of Tapiwa Munetsi (20) and Tatenda Obey Mutize (30) in connection with a case of kidnapping involving four Mudzonga Primary School pupils aged six (06), seven (07), nine (09), and seven (07) in Mutoko.
On 6th July 2022, at around 1500 hours, Tapiwa Munetsi met the four juveniles, three females and one male, on their way home at the school grounds.
He took the pupils hostage while accusing them of having picked an undisclosed amount of cash, which he claimed to have lost.
Munetsi then took the pupils to a mountain adjacent to the school on the pretext that he was taking them to the Police.
While on the mountain, he stripped the children naked before taking them to a bush area near his residence, about 8 km from the school.
Along the way, one of the juveniles escaped and alerted her parents, leading to a search which resulted in the location of the victims in the bush area at Sonhera Village.
The suspect tried to escape and was later arrested while hiding at his residence.
Upon questioning, Tapiwa Munetsi implicated Tatenda Obey Mutize as the one who had sent him to look for children who are in grade 5 and below.
The victims have since been referred to Mutoko District Hospital for medical examination.
The Police are now conducting comprehensive investigations to establish the motive behind the kidnapping.

Police Arrest Two Mutoko Men For Kidnapping Four Children

Police have launched a manhunt for two alleged rapists who abused a 9-year-old.
One of the suspects, Edmore Matanganye (31), appeared before Harare magistrate, Yeukai Dzuda, while his two alleged accomplices are still at large.
Matanganye was advised to approach the High Court for his bail application. He will be back in court on 5 July 2022.
Prosecuting, Anesu Chirenge, told the court that sometime in June this year, the minor was approached by a woman as she passed a certain compound.
The woman indicated to her that she was selling sweets and also wanted to give her a parcel to pass to her mother.
The woman then blocked the minor from behind and Matanganye emerged from the house and sealed the victim’s mouth with tape.
The woman tied the minor’s legs and the two carried her into a cabin where Matanganye allegedly raped the minor. The woman stood guard at the door.
When Matanganye was done, another male adult allegedly came inside and also raped the minor.
It is further alleged that the suspects later untied the minor and threatened her not to disclose the incident to anyone.
On 13 June, the minor told her mother that she was not feeling well, and then she revealed the matter to her.
The mother immediately took her to a police station and filed a report resulting in the arrest of Matanganye following investigations.

Trio Kidnap, Rape Nine-year-old Girl

Two Harare men were kidnapped, robbed and forced to have sexual intercourse with different women in separate incidents last week.
Both victims were attacked after boarding unregistered vehicles intending to travel to town.
In the first incident, a 22-year-old man was robbed of US$50, a cellphone and some personal documents after boarding an unregistered Honda Fit.
The victim boarded the vehicle that was travelling towards Harare CBD at Puma Service Station, along Ardbennie Road.
Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) national spokesperson Assistant Commissioner, Paul Nyathi, confirmed the incident. He said:

The vehicle had four occupants, one man and three women.
Along the way, the suspects diverted the route before robbing the complainant of his valuables and forcing him to have sexual intercourse with one of the female suspects.

In the second incident, Asst Comm Nyathi said a 20-year-old man was offered a lift by occupants of a Honda Fit on 7 June. He said:

The other incident occurred in Marlborough on June 7, in which the victim, a man (20), was robbed of US$40, a wallet and a cell phone after he was offered a lift in a Honda Fit vehicle which had five occupants, two men and three women, destined for Avonlea, Harare.
The suspects kidnapped the complainant and took him to an unknown house where they slept together and later released him on June 8 at around 3 pm.

In another robbery incident, a 50-year-old man lost US$500 cash, a cellphone and bank cards to robbers after boarding a kombi.
Asst Comm Nyathi said the victim boarded the unregistered white Toyota Hiace near the ZUPCO garage, along Gleneagles Rd, going into the CBD.
The vehicle had 10 occupants, six women and four men.

Commuters Kidnapped, Robbed And Raped

A brave passenger aboard a Mushikashika vehicle helped police arrest Christopher Nukarume (38) and Raymond Dirwai (43) who are facing allegations of kidnapping and robbery along the Harare-Bulawayo Road near Whitehouse last Friday.
Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi on Tuesday revealed that the two suspects who were travelling in a Mazda Bongo vehicle (AET 9775) offered a lift to seven people in Kuwadzana who were going to Granary, Riddleridge Park and Whitecliff.
It is alleged that along the way the suspects demanded cash and valuables from the victims while refusing to drop them off at their destinations. Said Asst Comm Nyathi:

The two suspects who were travelling in a Mazda Bongo vehicle, AET 9775 offered a lift to seven complainants in Kuwadzana who were going to Granary, Riddleridge Park and Whitecliff.
Along the way, the suspects demanded cash and valuables from the complainants while refusing to drop off the complainants at their respective destinations.
One of the complainants surrendered a cellphone while the other complainant grabbed the handbrake and the vehicle stopped leading to the arrest of the suspects.

'Brave' Passenger Foils Robbery, Kidnapping By Mushikashika Crew

The mother of a month-old baby boy who was recently kidnapped at Montagu Shopping Centre in Harare before being rescued by police said she feared her son had been killed for ritual purposes.
Shani Charamanda of Dzivaresekwa Extension met Miriam Bwanali who masqueraded as a Good Samaritan on October 22.
Bwanali allegedly introduced herself to Charamanda and offered to help her with carrying baby, Tamiranashe before she escaped with the child while its mother was in the shop. Charamanda had this to say:
<blockquote>I first met the lady at Parirenyatwa (Group of Hospitals) and she claimed to know me from somewhere. I responded that her face was familiar too.
She claimed that she lived in DZ Extension and that she was a prophetess, and I believed her.
On the way, she (Bwanali) offered to carry the baby and initially I refused but she insisted that she meant no harm to the child since she was a prophetess.
At the shopping centre, I didn’t find the items that I wanted, but she took some diapers from the shelf and gave me a US$2 note to pay.
She asked to go outside the shop to allow the baby to get some fresh air. I reluctantly agreed and for a while, I kept her and the baby within eyeshot.
But just after making payment, I noticed that she had disappeared.</blockquote>
Charamanda further revealed that a nurse who happens to be a family friend raised suspicion after attending to Bwanali and the baby at a hospital in Zvimba.
The baby was rescued by police 12 days after the alleged kidnapping but Bwanali managed to escape and is now a fugitive from justice.

Mother Of Stolen Baby Narrates Kidnapping

The husband of a woman who allegedly stole a baby from its mother at a grocery store in Harare last month was arrested in Murombedzi, Zvimba, in Mashonaland West Province on Monday.
Gift Chemhuru (40) was arrested by police at his homestead in Zvimba in connection with the kidnapping of four-week-old Tamiranashe Chadwick at Spar Supermarket, Montague Shopping Centre in Harare on 22 October 2020.
The woman suspected of snatching the baby, Mirriam Bwanali, who is Chemhuru’s wife, escaped before police could apprehend her. National police spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi said in a statement:
<blockquote>The Zimbabwe Republic Police confirms the arrest of Gift Chemhuru (40) following the kidnapping of a four-week-old baby at Spar Supermarket, Montague Shopping Centre, Harare on 22nd October 2020.
The baby was rescued from the suspect’s homestead on 2nd November 2020 in Zvimba following a tip-off from members of the public who heard the baby crying incessantly without being breastfed.
The baby has since been taken to Zvimba District Hospital.
Meanwhile, police are looking for the key suspect in this case, Mirriam Bwanali, the wife of Gift Chemhuru, in connection with the same matter. She escaped during the time police were called in.
Gift Chemhuru was also wanted for Theft and Motor Vehicle related offences.</blockquote>
The baby has since been reunited with its parents after they were called in by the police and positively identified him.

Husband Of Baby Snatcher Arrested

The <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Zimbabwe_Republic_Police" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP)</a> has launched a manhunt for a woman who allegedly kidnapped her cousin’s three-month-old male child in Shurugwi recently.
The suspected kidnapper took advantage of the mother’s absence to take away the child to an undisclosed location.
On their Twitter handle, Police have appealed for information that will lead to the location of the baby and arrest of the suspect. Read the tweet:

Police Launch Manhunt For Shurugwi Baby Kidnapper

Suspected Zanu-PF supporters kidnapped the party’s former Harare South MP, Shadreck Mashayamombe on Wednesday and demanded that he withdraws his candidature from the constituency before taking his Parliament-issued Chevrolet vehicle and dumping it along the Harare-Bulawayo Highway.
Mashayamombe told NewsDay that he was ambushed at Avondale Shopping Centre on Wednesday evening around 10pm by three armed men and one woman in a Honda Fit without registration plates. He said his kidnappers told him to withdraw his candidature against President Mnangagwa’s nephew Tongai. Said Mashayamombe:
<blockquote>Three men came out of the Honda Fit, demanded my car keys and forced me out of the car. They blindfolded me and drove off with me in my car. They parked the car and told me they had an instruction to dump me in Kariba Dam if I don’t want to withdraw my candidature against the President’s nephew. They later removed the blindfold and I saw one man with a gun, the other one with a metal rod, while the other two were unarmed. I could not recognise any one of them.</blockquote>
Mashayamombe said he did not report the matter to the police because they had not taken action when he reported several cases since November last year when he was kidnapped by the military.
