The late former President Robert Mugabe reportedly decided to support the then MDC-Alliance leader Nelson Chamisa’s presidential bid in 2018 to spite his former deputy, President Emmerson Mnangagwa.
According to a document titled “Proposed Framework for the Reunification of ZANU PF”, authored by former Tourism minister Walter Mzembi and his G40 colleagues, after the 2017 military coup, Mugabe wanted to engage Mnangagwa but was shunned.
Speaking to NewsDay on Wednesday, Mzembi said that Mugabe wanted G40 members to be reinstated to the party and the Government and for their victimisation to end. Said Mzembi:

Read the document which I was authorised by Mugabe to take to Mnangagwa after protracted discussions and meetings between us.
This is how he envisaged reunification in the party: rapprochement and peace-building, and not this razz-mataz approach of fishing unsuspecting political juveniles on the back of granting them individual and family security.
This was not Mugabe’s approach; he was not selfish to the extent of wanting to cut a deal for himself back into ZANU PF to the exclusion of comrades who had sacrificed for him, standing with him on principle until the last.

Mnangagwa is said to have demanded that Mugabe endorses his candidature ahead of the 2018 elections.
In return, Mugabe wanted some decisions of the 19 November 2017 ZANU PF central committee meeting, which included his sacking from the party, to be re-visited.
Some of the G40 members who lost their positions after the military coup include former ministers Mandiitawepi Chimene (Manicaland provincial), Mugabe’s nephew Patrick Zhuwao (Public Service, Labour and Social Welfare), Sydney Sekeramai (Defence), who lost his job soon after the coup, Walter Chidakwa (Mines), Jonathan Moyo (Higher and Tertiary Education), Ignatius Chombo (Finance) and Samuel Undenge (Energy).

"Mugabe Supported Chamisa To Spite Mnangagwa"

Self-exiled former ZANU PF Politburo member Professor Jonathan Moyo has sensationally claimed that following the November 2017 military coup, the G40 faction worked hard to ensure an MDC Alliance victory in the 2018 elections.
Moyo has been involved in a war of words with some MDC Alliance supporters on social media in recent days after he suggested that the party should convert the US$120 000 raised to buy party leader Nelson Chamisa an armoured car to equip polling agents ahead of the 2023 elections.
Moyo also revealed that he had withdrawn an offer to train 40 000 MDC Alliance polling agents after the party leadership failed to state its position following allegations that the offer had divided the opposition party.
Posting on Twitter, Moyo said the G40 campaigned for the MDC Alliance and later “exposed” vote-rigging not with the intention of joining the opposition party but to build a coalition. <a href="https://twitter.com/ProfJNMoyo/status/1475469904119836677">He said:</a>

Jonathan Moyo Castigates 'Immature' And 'Intolerant' MDC Alliance 'Cultists'

Former Local Government minister Saviour Kasukuwere has challenged the country’s leaders to put aside their egos and work together for the betterment of Zimbabwe.
The self-exiled former ZANU PF political commissar told NewsDay on Wednesday that Zimbabwe has been hamstrung by sanctions and polarisation and the issues require wisdom and maturity to handle. Said Kasukuwere:
<blockquote>
People must unite and deal with common challenges. No individual can be bigger than Zimbabwe.
Our country is isolated and there is the issue of sanctions and the issue of polarisation.
These issues require wisdom and maturity to handle so that we give a new era to the people of Zimbabwe.
</blockquote>
Kasukuwere left the country in 2017 following the military coup that ousted the late former President Robert Mugabe and is currently in South Africa.
He came back in 2018 but left the country again for South Africa where some former G40 members, including former ministers Walter Mzembi and Mugabe’s nephew Patrick Zhuwao, are based. Added Kasukuwere:

It must never be about an individual or opposition, but it is about the survival of the people of Zimbabwe.
No individual is greater than the nation. We need to admit that and ask ourselves tough questions before we do the right thing.
The rule of law and property rights should be protected. We need a better country for every Zimbabwean.

Kasukuwere has been accused of being behind a court application by ZANU PF activist, Sybeth Musengezi to challenge President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s rise to the helm of the party in 2017.
Mnangagwa was fired from the posts of State Vice President and ZANU PF vice president but bounced back in the aftermath of the military coup.

Kasukuwere Calls For National Unity

Exiled former ZANU PF politburo member Jonathan Moyo on Thursday said the majority of Zimbabweans neither belong to nor do they support ZANU PF and it was “existing on borrowed time; because it has no future”.
Moyo, who fled the country in November 2017 after a military coup that ousted late former president Robert Mugabe claimed that ZANU PF exists today as a tool of the military. He said:
<blockquote>The fact that the majority of Zimbabweans are not members of ZANU PF and that they do not want to join it today or tomorrow does not mean they don’t exist.
Quite the contrary, the majority of Zimbabweans can see and they know that. The majority of Zimbabweans neither belong to nor do they support ZANU PF; they have no wish or desire to join it today or tomorrow.
While a party that is at war with the majority can exist today as a military tool but, the writing on the wall is clear, ZANU PF is existing on borrowed time; because it has no future.</blockquote>
He added that people like Kudzanai Chipanga, who were readmitted by ZANU PF on Wednesday, have decided to return to a graveyard whose impending demise is certain.
Moyo, Chipanga and others were allegedly members of the G40 faction when factionalism within the ruling party was at its peak before the coup.
While some of the G40 movers fled into exile following the putsch, others have chosen to return to the party as mere card-carrying members.

ZANU PF's Impending Nonexistence Is Assured - Jonathan Moyo

Former ZANU PF youth leader Kudzanai Chipanga is on the cusp of rejoining the ruling party after he was cleared by the party’s Manicaland provincial executive and now awaits politburo endorsement.
Other former members seeking to revert to ZANU PF are ex-provincial youth member Taurai Chiripamberi and James Kaunye, who had defected to former Vice-President Joice Mujuru’s Zimbabwe People First party.
A ZANU PF provincial coordinating committee (PCC) meeting was held in Mutare last where Chipanga and other former party members were endorsed.
The PCC meeting was attended by Information minister Monica Mutsvangwa, provincial chairperson Mike Madiro and former Finance minister Patrick Chinamasa.
Speaking to NewsDay, a party official, who refused to be named said the names would now be forwarded to the politburo for consideration. The official is quoted as saying:
<blockquote>The issue of Kudzi Chipanga and others was tabled at the PCC meeting and in his remarks, comrade Patrick Chinamasa noted that if Chipanga was endorsed in his Makoni district, then the province had no objection. In fact, the province had no objection.</blockquote>
Madiro confirmed that they have names of former party members who have applied to rejoin the ruling party but said could not reveal their identities. He said:
<blockquote>Yes, we had a PCC, but on the issues of the names, it’s an internal process and I am not at liberty to disclose the names of the people concerned, which are forwarded to the party leadership for consideration.
Yes, as ZANU PF, we have names of people who have applied to be re-admitted to the party because they are happy with the vision of the party.</blockquote>
Chipanga was fired by ZANU PF in 2017 together with several other members aligned to the Generation 40 (G40) cabal at the height of ZANU PF factional fights.

Kudzanai Chipanga Awaits Politburo Endorsement

According to Zanu PF sources in the party, the Defence Ministry Deputy Minister and Zanu PF Political Commissar Victor Matemadanda was fired for the following 7 reasons:

<li>He was allegedly fanning factionalism in the party</li>
<li> He was becoming too ambitious, by manipulating party structures to position himself ahead of the 2023 elections.</li>
<li>He was reportedly also a victim of a factional war that pitted him against Mnangagwa’s allies in his home province of Midlands.</li>
<li>Matemadanda was also accused of being big-headed and not respecting senior party officials deployed at the  Zanu PF headquarters like Obert Mpofu, Patrick Chinamasa and the like.</li>
<li>There were many reports against Matemadanda over the party’s chaotic DCC election polls last year, the manner in which he handled the polls which resulted in violence in some provinces did not please some party officials.</li>
<li>The ruling party was reportedly unhappy with his utterances that embarrassed the party in the eyes of the international community that includes stating that the <a href="https://news.pindula.co.zw/2021/03/23/we-did-not-liberate-this-country-to-surrender-it-matemadanda-sensationally-declarers/">ruling party is decimating the opposition and they will not surrender</a> this country.</li>
<li>Matemadanda also angered the ruling party when he hosted some people from Mujuru and G40 during his graduation luncheon.</li>

A source that spoke to the publication reportedly said Matemadanda was fired probably because he was working with other people calling themselves Gokwe boys as they were trying to bring down July Moyo and Owen Ncube:
<blockquote>…These(working with Matemadanda) include Larry Mavima (Midlands Provincial Affairs minister), Daniel Mackenzie (Zanu PF provincial chairman for Midlands) and Zanu PF youth chairman for Midlands Edmore Samambwa, among others.
They called themselves Gokwe Boys and their mission was to destroy July Moyo and Mudha (Owen Ncube) so that they become close to Mnangagwa.
They considered themselves as super Lacoste, more important than others. They were cooking up stories to create a divide between the two and Mnangagwa.</blockquote>

7 Reasons Why Matamedanda Was Fired - Report

Some senior members of the ruling ZANU PF have accused eliminated Generation 40 (G40) and Gamatox factions of causing chaos during the recently held party district coordinating committee (DCC) elections.
Meanwhile, liberation war icon and one of the remaining Zanu PF founders, Rugare Gumbo, upon president Emmerson Mnangagwa to disband the DCCs which he says will fuel growing factional and tribal wars.
Zanu PF secretary for security in the politburo, Lovemore Matuke, told the Daily News on Thursday that the remnants of G-40 and Gamatox continue to attempt to weave their way back into Zanu PF. He said:
<blockquote>They (alleged G40 and Gamatox remnants) want to come back to Zanu PF because it’s cold out there. People struggle to survive outside Zanu PF.</blockquote>
G40 was allegedly being led by the former first lady, Grace Mugabe while some of the kingpins include exiled ministers, Jonathan Moyo, Saviour Kasukuwere, Patrick Zhuwao and Walter Mzembi.
The Gamatox faction was reportedly being led by the former Vice President, Joice Mujuru and it became defunct with her ouster from the ruling party in 2015.
Speaking to the Daily News, ZANU PF political commissar, Victor Matemadanda who is also the deputy minister of Defence and War Veterans Affairs said:
<blockquote>If someone was G40, it doesn’t mean that he is not going to come back to the party … for now, I am busy with DCC elections and can’t comment further.</blockquote>
Both G40 and Gamatox fought against Mnangagwa’s Lacoste faction which eventually won.
Other Zanu PF insiders who spoke to the Daily News yesterday said ruling party bigwigs were worried about the resurgence of the two factions.
TheY claimed that the G40 and Gamatox factions wanted to bounce back into Zanu PF and rekindle their yester-year fights with Mnangagwa from within.

Rugare Gumbo Implores ED To Disband ZANU PF DCCs

According to the Daily News tensions are running high in the ruling party Zanu PF following their just ended DCC polls. War Veterans in  Mashonaland Central where Home Affairs Minister Kazembe Kazembe is the chairman are reportedly requesting that he be investigated for his alleged affiliation to the now-defunct G40.
This was revealed in a letter that was leaked that was seen by the publication which reads in part:
<blockquote>We understand there is an ill constituted and unsanctioned team of provincial members of our party which went to Zanu PF HQ and misrepresented themselves that they had been sent by the province to clean out G40 elements from our province.
“The first secretary and president had met provincial chairpersons on the 12th October 2020 and advised them to ensure clean members participate in the DCC elections.
A well-constituted team was then supposed to carry out the directive from the president. However, we understand that about four members aligned to one of the factions in the province decided to carry out the mission themselves for their own benefit,
Consequently genuine and deserving party members were corruptly and unfairly removed from the list, leaving well-known G40 members to participate.
These have remained link persons of the exiled G40 kingpins, yet they are left to participate in the DCC elections against the directive from the president. In the interest of the party, we request that further investigations be carried out and disciplinary action be taken in line with our constitution.</blockquote>
<blockquote>May I also remind you of our complaint against the unfair and uncalled for removal of war veterans from the provincial leadership chat group, whose audio evidence was given to you by the undersigned. “We wait to be apprised of the outcome of the investigations and follow up action.</blockquote>
This comes after several reports that other party bigwigs are also under fire from provinces for example Justice Minister Ziyambi Ziyambi whose post is reportedly being challenged by Mary Mliswa Chikoka and in some provinces like Masvingo and Harare where party bigwigs are fighting for seats at the top.

War Vets Want Kazembe Investigated For His Alleged Affiliation To G40

President Emmerson Mnangagwa has for the umpteenth time accused the expelled ZANU PF G40 faction and its alleged sympathisers of undermining his government.
Speaking during a post-politburo media briefing on Wednesday, ZANU PF acting spokesperson Patrick Chinamasa said Mnangagwa spoke about the issue during the meeting. Chinamasa said:
<blockquote>His Excellency (Mnangagwa) told the Politburo meeting that social media is awash with the clandestine machinations of the G40 and their sympathisers.
They are using social media to make an orchestrated launch and an onslaught against our country and party.
But they will not get anywhere and the people will get to know that they are there to disrupt our orderly development.</blockquote>
Most of the G40 members are now living in self-imposed exile after fleeing the country in November 2017 following a military coup that ousted then President Robert Mugabe from office.
The supposed G40 kingpins include former ministers, Jonathan Moyo, Saviour Kasukuwere, Patrick Zhuwao, Walter Mzembi, Godfrey Gandawa and Mandiitawepi Chimene.
Moyo is holed up in Kenya while Kasukuwere, Zhuwao, Mzembi and Gandawa are based in South Africa. Chimene is in Mozambique.
Moyo has been accused of using microblogging site Twitter to expose top-secret government and Zanu PF meetings.
Mnangagwa’s government is seeking to have Moyo, Kasukuwere, and Mzembi extradited to Zimbabwe to answer to fraud charges.

G40 Gives Mnangagwa Headaches

President Emmerson Mnangagwa has reportedly tasked the principal of the Herbert Chitepo School of Ideology, Munyaradzi Machacha, to bring former Zanu PF stalwarts Joice Mujuru and Nicholas Goche back to their party, the Daily News reports.
This was revealed by a party insider who said the president’s bid to have Mujuru and Goche back was because G40 is planning to lure them into their camp in its broader plan to come back to power.
The source that wanted to remain anonymous told the Daily News that:
<blockquote>The G40 cabal wants to take charge of Mashonaland Central Province as part of their broader strategy to creep back into power. They want Mai Mujuru, Goche and some politburo members in the province to be on their side.
Of late Goche has gone very, very quiet and is no longer attending party meetings and functions like he used to do despite having lost his Cabinet post.
This is worrying and the president (Mnangagwa) is concerned. The president has asked Machacha to ensure that Mujuru returns to the party. The president also wants Goche to bounce back into the central committee.</blockquote>
Joice Mujuru was expelled from the party by former president Robert Mugabe in 2014 after the latter accused her of trying to topple him from power.
Goche who also suffered the same fate as Mujuru was last week arrested for <a href="https://news.pindula.co.zw/2020/10/08/zrp-arrests-nicholas-goche-over-stock-theft/">allegedly stealing 18 cattle from a local farmer</a> a case his lawyers described as a civil matter, not a criminal matter.

ED Tasks Machacha To Bring Joice Mujuru, Nicholas Goche Back To Zanu PF  - Report

The reinstated interim secretary-general of the opposition MDC-T, Douglas Mwonzora has claimed that 12 MDC-T youths are being held hostage at Harvest House by G40 youths who assisted the rival MDC Alliance led by Nelson Chamisa to seize the premises.
He told reporters on Friday that they will use legal channels to repossess the party headquarters. Mwonzora added:
<blockquote>
Some G40 members connived with some of our youths to occupy our headquarters. We have reports that some G40 youths who are occupying our building have dangerous weapons such as petrol bombs. The law will take its course.
There are using petrol bombs to threaten party leadership. It’s a question of time before we repossess the party headquarters, Harvest House.
</blockquote>
G40 is a ZANU PF faction that was believed to be led by the former first lady Grace Mugabe. Former ministers, Jonathan Moyo, Saviour Kaukuwere, Walter Mzembi, and Patrick Zhuwao are some individuals strongly linked to the faction.
The faction fought then Vice President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s Lacoste faction as the succession race intensified during the last days of the late former President Robert Mugabe’s last days in office.

Mwonzora Says G40 Is Holding 12 MDC-T Youths Hostage

Former cabinet minister and Zanu PF spokesperson Patrick Chinamasa has revealed that exiled politician and former Zanu PF politician Commissar Saviour Kasukuwere and members of the now-defunct G40 used to report to former first lady Grace Mugabe on issues pertaining to cabinet decisions, New Zimbabwe reports.
Chinamasa said this while responding to Kasukuwere who he called a CIA agent who was expelled from Zanu PF in 2017. In his response, Chinamasa said:
<blockquote>Kasukuwere and members of the cabinet who were G40 decided to take advantage of the aging of the former president (Robert Mugabe) and were reporting directly to the former first lady in Mazowe where decisions of the cabinet could be reversed,
That is a serious onslaught on a national constitution that you have people outside who are not the president, totally usurping presidential powers to make decisions of a presidential executive nature, then you have a person who participated in that process talking about constitutionalism.</blockquote>
Chinamasa then took a swipe at Kasuwuwere, G40 and Grace Mugabe and said
<blockquote>I think it’s in public glare that Kasukuwere and his G40 comrades in the cabinet were hanging very lowly on the skirts of the former first lady. What constitutionalism did he find there, I had not realised that he would say things that would shame him because he is not a proponent of constitutionalism.</blockquote>
Chinamasa said 3 years on they are still trying to right Kasukuwere’s wrongs:
<blockquote>Even in our party, we are still trying to correct what he did. He was hiring and firing and installing people into positions without any procedures whatsoever.
And he has the temerity to talk about constitutionalism, how many of his cronies that he put into positions and those opposed to the G40 removing them will-nilly.
So, his talk of the fact that he still thinks he is a member of Zanu PF is wishful thinking of the worst kind and it may need a psychiatrist.</blockquote>
This came after Kasukuwere bodily declared that he was a Zanu PF card-carrying member.

Kasukuwere & His G40 Comrades In The Cabinet Were Hanging Very Lowly On The Skirts Of Grace Mugabe  - Chinamasa

Exiled former ZANU PF political commissar Saviour Kasukuwere has responded to the party’s acting spokesperson Patrick Chinamasa who on Wednesday said the Kasukuwere brothers, Saviour, Dickson Mafios and Tongai Kasukuwere were seeking to be readmitted into the party.
In a post on Twitter, Kasukuwere asserted that he never left the party in the first place but remains a ZANU PF card-carrying member. He wrote:
<blockquote>Chinamasa is dishonest and it’s unfortunate. Three Cdes, myself, Mzembi and Zhuwao met [the ANC] and whose deliberations and discussions remain privileged until the process is over.
Attempts to personalize and malign will be ignored. The crisis is national in nature and cannot be reduced to individuals or factions.
I am clear about how we should fix the legitimacy issues all round and will keep my eye on the ball. This is the main cause of our crisis.
The cause of our national crisis is to deal with lack of constitutionalism at a party level and has manifested itself at a national level.
Once constitutionality within the party is fixed it will cascade to the national level.
The assault on the young generation must come to an end where political contestation is free, fair and credible.
We must remove fear, hate, favour and patronage. Politics must always lead the gun. Vision, ideology and direction must be central to our total emancipation.
I remain a card-carrying member of the party until due process is carried in line with the party’s constitution.
I remain committed to the unity of the party which is key to sustainable national development.</blockquote>
Speaking after a Politburo meeting in Harare on Wednesday, Chinamasa told reporters that certain G-40 members had applied for readmission and that the party will look at each application on a case-by-case basis.

Kasukuwere: I Remain A ZANU PF Card-carrying Member

Zanu PF Political commissar,  Deputy Defence Minister and secretary-general of the Zimbabwe National Liberation War Veterans Association (ZNLWVA) Victor Matemadanda while addressing party structures in Harare urged people to unite and put an end to infightings ravaging the party as he said they would destroy the party.
Taking a jab at the former first family and the MDC Matemadanda said:
<blockquote>There is this habit among party members of labelling each other G40 (a vanquished faction of the party) for example. People are not putting maximum effort to their party work due to this. We must know that Mugabe was our leader … for nearly 40 years. All of us wanted to be close even to (Mugabe’s wife) Grace.
We must forget about the past and start new things so that our party can continue to grow. You must not make unnecessary accusations against each other. Lets Unite, MDC Is Dead We Can’t Lose Elections To A Dead Party - Matemadanda Appeals To Zanu PF Factionalists

The ruling party has promised and sent a stern warning to party members purported to be dealing with members of the now-defunct G40, Daily News reports. This was revealed by Zanu PF security secretary in the politburo Lovemore Matuke who spoke to the Daily News and said:

<div>Yes, there are some people in the party who are working with G40. We are going to flush them out… As the party’s security department we are on high alert. We will flush out the G40 culprits and this is not going to affect the party.</div>

They are trying to take advantage of the economy and the drought, which I can assure that the president is going to address soon. Sanctions are affecting us, the president is also dealing with corruption, and so people must wait…we are in the right direction. We should fight to resolve the challenges, not to fight for positions.</div>

<div>The revelations came a few short weeks after the ruling party reportedly started an exercise to flush out members of their party who were reportedly involved in planning 31 July protests with opposition party elements and CSOs.</div>

Zanu PF Planning To Flush Out Party Members Dealing With G40 Members

A Zanu PF source that spoke to Newsday said the now-defunct Zanu PF G40 faction is on the rebound, Newsday reports. This came amid reported that this past weekend 4 of President Mnangagwa’s loyalists were suspended in the party’s effort to reform the party structures by G40 remnants.
A source speaking to the publication said:
<blockquote>In Harare recently there was also a plot to purge another Team Lacoste cadre in the name of Godwin Gomwe and we are likely to see more loyalists of President Mnangagwa falling by the way side. It’s a bigger scheme and G40 is on the rebound. This explains why former G40 officials who were suspended are trickling back into the party such as former Cabinet minister Annastancia Ndlovu who is now working at the party headquarters in Harare.</blockquote>
According to the publication, 4 of the people who were suspended as a broader plan to weaken President Mnangawag’s grip on the party are:

G40 was a name given to the faction that was aligned to Jonathan Moyo, Grace Mugabe and Saviour Kasukuwere against another faction in Zanu PF called Lacoste which rallied behind President Mnangagwa before the 2017 coup.

MDC Alliance leader Nelson Chamisa has said the struggle to defeat the ruling party is no longer up to the MDC Alliance only but to all Zimbabweans as he likened the current administration’s governance to a yoke choking the country’s democratic space to an extent that it could not breathe, Newsday reports.
Said the youthful MDC leader:
<blockquote>It’s not about me or the MDC Alliance, it is about the people of Zimbabwe, the democratic space is being choked by Zanu PF and it is time we act, draw a line in the sand or we will be choked to death
Look at how everyone has become an enemy of the State and under siege, first it was the doctors, then they came after journalists, then lawyers, human rights activists, the whole nation can’t breathe now,</blockquote>
Chamisa also took the time to address rumours that he was being funded and taking advice from members of the now-defunct former Zanu PF G40 faction:
<blockquote>Yes, I am G40, my age is 42, so what? It is a Zanu PF party culture of label and condemnation. I am not seeking to be the president of MDC. I am already the president of MDC Alliance and I am not going to be reduced into petty fights.
I am seeking to establish national consensus for all people. I am not going to label people condemning them because of who they are. I know I am going to lead Zimbabwe including Mnangangwa and his Zanu PF, so I am going to lead the entire nation.
Why should I say I don’t want to see Mnangagwa when you are a leader you must unify people. That is my fundamental problem with Mnangagwa. Instead of unifying people, he is waging a gap of hatred within people.</blockquote>

Moyo made the claim through a post on his Twitter handle on Saturday morning. However, commenting on Moyo’s insinuations, MDC-T spokesperson, Khaliphani Phugeni told NewZimbabwe.com on Saturday that nothing could be further from the truth. He said:
<blockquote>The MDC-T notes with great disappointment and disdains a tweet from Professor Jonathan Moyo, which purports that the MDC-T through President Dr Khupe sought funding from a Zanu PF faction going by the name of G40 through her then-aide Mr Witness Dube.
The truth of the matter is that Prof Moyo has relations with many Zimbabweans including those in opposition politics and even those close to Dr Khupe. The MDC-T would like to put it on record that at no stage did the party ever seek funding from any Zanu PF faction directly or through a proxy.</blockquote>
Moyo had said MDC-T president Thokozani Khupe’s aide, Witness Dube, was sent to ask for funding from the former ZANU PF officials.

Zimbabwe’s former cabinet ministers (alleged to have been part of the G40 faction) living in exile in South Africa’s political ambitions are now hanging by a thread after the South African government gazetted tough new regulations which among other things, ban refugees and asylum seekers from engaging in political activities.
Home Affairs Minister Aaron Motsoaledi gazetted the new regulations under the Refugees Act, which took effect from January 1, 2020. The regulations stipulate that:
<blockquote>… no refugee or asylum seeker may participate in any political activity or campaign in furtherance of any political party or political interests in the Republic.</blockquote>
The late former President Robert Mugabe’s nephew, <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Patrick_Zhuwao" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Patrick Zhuwawo</a> recently applied to join South Africa’s opposition party, Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF).

South Africa Curtails G40 Kingpins' Political Activities

Zanu-PF Mashonaland West provincial chairman <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Ziyambi_Ziyambi" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Ziyambi Ziyambi</a> has warned members of the <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/G40_(Zanu-PF_Faction)" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">G40 faction</a> that they face expulsion for destabilising the party.
Speaking to The Herald, Ziyambi asserted that the ruling party will not risk its destruction for the sake of keeping its support base. He said:
<blockquote>Going forward we will detail everything that these people are doing and recommend that they are expelled.
While our desire is to ensure that we maintain our support base and recruit more, we can’t allow forces that will destroy the party to persist.</blockquote>
The G40 or Generation 40 is a group of Zanu-PF politicians that was believed to be working against the possibility of Emmerson Mnangagwa <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Lacoste,_Zanu-PF_Faction" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">(Lacoste Faction)</a> succeeding the late former president Robert Mugabe as president of Zimbabwe.
Before Mugabe’s demise, the group was thought to favour Mugabe’s wife, Grace, taking over from her husband as president.

Ziyambi Threatens G40 Remnants With Expulsion

A group of disgruntled former and current ZANU PF members who, for many years were aligned to the late former President <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Robert_Mugabe" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Robert Mugabe</a>, is reportedly plotting a sensational comeback from the political wilderness.
The group, going by the moniker G40, has allegedly coalesced around exiled former Local Government Minister <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Saviour_Kasukuwere" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Saviour Kasukuwere</a>, with videos on social media calling for youths to support the former Mt Darwin legislator. A man in one of the campaign videos posted online is heard saying:
<blockquote>We have suffered as Zimbabweans. Nothing is happening in hospitals.
There are no doctors, no nurses and women are resorting to desperate measures to give birth.
There is a crisis in schools and I think in Zimbabwe we are lacking leadership.
As youths, the future is in our hands and we must find a leader, who has the youths at heart. Let us support Kasukuwere to take us forward.</blockquote>
Mugabe was forced to resign two years ago following a period of factional fights between the G40 and Team Lacoste factions which eventually sucked in the opposition MDC in Parliament.
A popular military coup sidelined Mugabe’s allies in the <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/G40_(Zanu-PF_Faction)" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">G40</a> camp, with the top leaders fleeing the country fearing for their safety.

G40 Plots To Capture The Hearts Of Zimbabwean Youths

Former ZANU PF Mashonaland West chairperson <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Temba_Mliswa" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Temba Mliswa</a> has chided Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) leader Julius Malema for meddling in Zimbabwe’s internal affairs after the latter urged the <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Government_of_Zimbabwe" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">government of Zimbabwe</a> to allow exiled <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/G40_(Zanu-PF_Faction)" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">G40</a> politicians to return home.
The Norton legislator said Malema should come out clean if he has decided to be the G40’s foreign public relations manager. Said Mliswa:
<blockquote>We do not need him to mediate in matters which are before the courts in this country. May he stick to his principles of being an Honourable Member of Parliament who fights corruption in his country and allow us to fight corruption in this country.
If he has decided to be an external affairs officer for the G40 then he must come out in the clean.</blockquote>
Earlier this week, Malema told the South African Parliament that he was willing to mediate between President Emmerson Mnangagwa and the G40 faction, most of whose members are living in South Africa.
The controversial EFF leader also castigated the Zimbabwean government for allegedly persecuting Grace Mugabe, the widow of the late former President Robert Mugabe.

Speaking in a video he recorded on Facebook, Chamisa said his party is tightening the screws so that when it does what ought to be done, there won’t be a problem. He said:

After losing a Constitutional Court challenge to have the 2018 presidential election nullified, Chamisa has refused to recognise President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s incumbency.

The former Youth Minister, <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Saviour_Kasukuwere">Saviour Kasukuwere</a> reportedly met with Zimbabwean Journalists in South Africa, according to Gorge Charamba’s Encrypted Tweet.
Charamba using his Twitter handle JMwanda2 tweeted:

Kasukuwere Reportedly Meets Zimbabweans Journalists In South Africa

Social media yesterday was awash with a photo of supposed G40 party registration with ZEC. G40 is or was a faction of Zanu PF that was reported to have been against President Mnangagwa’s ascension to the throne in favour of the younger generation in Zanu PF. Believed to be Jonathan Moyo’s baby, G40 ‘s rivalry referred to as Lacoste, came in power by the famous coup. After the coup, G40 faction went quiet until yesterday when social media started circulating a photo that supposedly showed they had registered with ZEC as an official opposition party.

A new political party, Zimbabwe Generation 40 (G40) was launched recently and duly notified the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) of its existence.
In a letter addressed to the party by ZEC, Chief Elections Officer Utloile Silaigwana wrote:
<blockquote>The Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) acknowledges receipt of your party profile documents, the contents of which have been noted.
Your organisation has been included on ZEC’s stakeholder database and mailing list for notification when appropriate meetings that require your input arise.</blockquote>

G40 Launch Political Party - Zimbabwe Generation 40

MDC-T vice president Obert Gutu has lauded the character of the late founding MDC president Morgan Tsvangirai. In an interview with Business Times ahead of Tsvangirai’s memorial service scheduled for 4 May, Gutu said Tsvangirai put the country first.
He, however, lashed at the current MDC Alliance leadership, which he characterised as the G40. Gutu said Chamisa and his colleagues are power-hungry.
<blockquote>Look at the polarisation in the country. If Morgan were alive he would put Zimbabwe first.
If he wanted to sell out, that man would have died a billionaire I tell you. He died almost a pauper because to him it was never about selling out.
If it was another person he could have given up. Look at the party now without him.
Look at the level of disintegration and internal fights. Under his leadership that would never have happened. If he had contested the 2018 elections, he would have won.
Now we are looking at a party in internal disarray and taken over by a faction of Zanu PF. G40 is running that party now and if they think Gutu is lying, they can go to court and we will meet in court. Morgan would never have allowed that.
Look at what is happening now. It is happening because of power. We won in 2008 by a wider margin but he climbed down to make Zimbabwe move forward.</blockquote>

MDC Alliance Has Been Taken Over By ZANU PF's G40 - Obert Gutu

ZANU PF party’s national spokesperson Simon Khaya Moyo said that the re-emerging pattern of votes of no confidence is uncalled for and would cause anarchy within the party.
His statement comes after the ZANU PF Youth League national executive passed a vote of no confidence in its top leadership. In Mashonaland West Province, the executive council removed the treasurer, Mary Mliswa from her post. Moyo had this to say:
<blockquote>Previously, disunity forces under the G40 cabal used votes-of-no-confidence to purge party members perceived to be against their destabilisation agenda.
Summary dismissal of a party official through a vote-of-no-confidence should only be occasioned in extraordinary circumstances and can only be passed upon gross incompetence and/or dereliction of duty, gross misconduct or disloyalty and treachery.
Membership rights are sacrosanct, hence they should always unreservedly be observed. The principles of natural justices must be the underlining factor.</blockquote>
ZANU PF factional fights reached their zenith in 2017 when the two main factions at the time, Team Lacoste and G40, fought for the soul of the party through votes of no confidence.
