A Zimbabwean University, Bindura University of Science Education (BUSE) has on Thursday claimed that it has discovered the cure for the Newcastle virus which has caused major losses in the poultry industry worldwide.
The discovery which is the first worldwide was announced by the institution’s Vice-Chancellor, Professor Eddie Mwenje this afternoon. He said:
<blockquote>Bindura University of Science Education has been working on the virus and we have been doing research on Newcastle. We now have a cure for the virus and we are doing tests to finalise the market mechanism of action the drug.
The drug should be out sometime this year. We have submitted our projects for final funding to our ministry.</blockquote>

JUST IN: Zimbabwe's Bindura University Discover Cure For Newcastle Virus

At the 18th graduation of <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Bindura_University_of_Science_Education">Bindura University Of Science Education</a> the president was conferred with an honorary doctorate in Peace and Governance. This latest conferment is his 3rd honorary doctorate in 2019.  The president in accepting the degree dedicated the accolade to peace-loving Zimbabweans Sunday News reports.
The president in his speech said:
<blockquote>I wish to express my deep sense of gratitude to the Bindura University of Science and Technology for the conferment of Honorary Doctor (Honoris Causa) in Peace and Governance. I humbly dedicate this award to all Zimbabweans who have, over the years, remained committed to peace, security, unity and stability of our beloved country.</blockquote>

Another Honorary Doctorate For ED

President Robert Mugabe capped 1 965 students at Bindura University of Science Education (BUSE). 779 of the graduates are science teachers.
It was the 16th graduation at BUSE since it attained university status in 1996 as a university college of science education with 125 students. The university is an offshoot of the Zimbabwe-Cuba Science Teacher Training Programme which discontinued in Cuba following economic challenges that were confronting the Caribbean nation.
The graduation ceremony was attended by Higher Education Minister Professor Jonathan Moyo, his deputy Dr Godfrey Gandawa, Minister of State for Mashonaland Central Advocate Martin Dinha, Local Government Minister Saviour Kasukuwere, Zanu PF officials, legislators from the province and parents.

Pres Mugabe caps 1 965 Bindura University of Science Education (BUSE) students

Dr Solomon Guramatunhu announced that he is set to open the country’s first school of optometry, which is expected to start operating by year-end in partnership with Bindura University of Science Education (BUSE).
Guramatunhu made the announcement last Friday during the official opening of his new eye clinic in Avondale. Said Guramatunhu:
<blockquote>It is now 37 years after independence and sadly there is still no school of optometry in Zimbabwe, that is why we have partnered with the university to address this issue, with the main goal being nurturing world class eye specialists that are able to serve the nation at large. Everything is almost in place, as we have already recruited lecturers, some of whom are coming from outside Zimbabwe, and this school is going to increase manpower in the country’s optometry services and consequently address the high prices incurred in acquiring such services.</blockquote>

Guramatunhu partners with Bindura University to set up eye school

Bindura University of Science Education (Buse) has released names of accepted students for the faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities, specifically for Bachelor of Science Honours Degree in Peace and Governance and Bachelor of Science Honours Degree in Social Work. Addressing the Zanu PF conference in Masvingo in December 2016, Higher Education Minister Professor <a href="http://www.pindula.co.zw/Jonathan_Moyo">Jonathan Moyo</a> revealed government will this year launch a tuition loan scheme for higher and tertiary education students. At the time, Moyo said his ministry had already engaged the <a href="http://www.pindula.co.zw/Reserve_Bank_of_Zimbabwe">Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe (RBZ)</a> over terms and conditions of the facility.

Jonathan Moyo says Govt will likely introduce student loans in August

<a href="http://www.pindula.co.zw/Bindura_University_of_Science_Education">Bindura University of Science Education</a> (Buse) received a donation of 50 state of the computers that were sourced by President <a href="http://www.pindula.co.zw/Robert_Mugabe">Robert Mugabe</a> from a local mining company Great Dyke Investments.
Handing over the computers the permanent secretary in the office of the President ambassador Boniface Chidyausiku expressed hope the computers will enhance e-learning at the institution while Great Dyke Investment general manager Mr Igor Higer said the donation is part of his company’s efforts to compliment President Mugabe’s e-learning programme.
In his acceptance speech BUSE vice chancellor Professor Eddie Mwenje commended President Mugabe for his vision in promoting e-learning in the country saying the donation is a major boost for the institution.

Mugabe sources 50 state of the art computers for Bindura University

President Mugabe was capping graduands at Bindura University of Science Education, and the security at the event was tight, considering that the President was present.  However, his security seems to want to err on the side of caution and in their zeal to protect their master they confiscated everyday items such as pens, combs, water bottles, cans , lotions and hair brushes among other things.

Presidential security confiscates pens, combs, et. al at Bindura Graduation

<a href="http://www.pindula.co.zw/Bindura_University_of_Science_Education">Bindura University of Science Education</a> students yesterday approached the Higher and Tertiary Education ministry in Harare claiming the institution wanted to bar them from proceeding with their studies until they passed modules they had failed.
The students, who were on industrial internship until the opening of the new semester in August, said they were shocked when the university told them that as part of the new regulations stipulated under ordinance section 2 of 2015 to 2017 that they would have to de-register and return only after passing the failed modules. Students who had gathered at the ministry’s offices in the morning said they did not receive prior communication regarding the new decree as the old rules allowed them to continue with their studies and rewrite failed subjects.
Unlike other State universities that offer free supplementary exams for failed modules, Bindura University is the only one in Zimbabwe that charges $70 to retake a failed module. NewsDay could not reach Bindura University vice-chancellor Eddie Mwenje and Higher Education ministry officials for comment.
