Zimbabwean businessman, Evans Katumba, who was abducted in Durban, South Africa, on March 22 has been found dead.
As reported by <a href="https://www.zimlive.com/missing-zimbabwe-tycoon-evans-katumba-is-found-dead-in-durban/">ZimLive</a>, South African police believe Katumba, who was in his mid-30s, was killed on March 24 soon after his family paid R1.5 million ransom in a bid to secure his release.
His body was found last week in a field in Hammarsdale, a township 50 kilometres west of Durban.
A relative who asked not to be named told ZimLive on Tuesday that the police confirmed that the body was that of Katumba after DNA tests were conducted on the remains. Said the relative:

It’s him, police have confirmed to the family. They think he was shot on the same day we handed over the ransom money.
</blockquote>
The family suspects Katumba knew his captors, and that could have been the reason why he was killed even after they paid R1.5 million of the R2.5 million ransom the kidnappers initially demanded.
Katumba is said to have arrived in South Africa over 16 years ago and initially worked as a truck driver for various companies in Durban.
He also worked as a petrol attendant before he set up his own fuel trading company in 2018.
Katumba was described by friends as “a nice guy” and “very humble” and was nicknamed Vardy for his goal-scoring prowess in social football much like the Leicester City Football Club striker, Jamie Vardy.
He ran a thriving diesel brokerage business and had recently purchased Yugo, one of Durban’s top nightclubs.
Katumba is said to have bought luxury vehicles including a R3.5 million Mercedes G63, a Ferrari and a sprawling mansion in Durban’s Yellowwood Park neighbourhood.
His friends believe that his decision to take over Yugo nightclub in February brought him unwelcome attention. The nightclub, now renamed Sky Premium Club, had only opened for one week when he was abducted.
It is alleged that Katumba was preparing to go to the nightclub on March 22 when he received a call at around 8 PM.
The family believes that the caller, who wanted a meeting, is someone whom Katumba knew.
He left home driving his brand new VW Amarok and picked up an artist who was due to perform at the nightclub that night before heading out to meet the mystery caller. Said a friend:

When they got to the place where this meeting was supposed to take place they were met by people armed with AK47s. They took him and the Amarok which was yet to be installed with a tracker.
</blockquote>
The artist who was travelling with Katumba was left at the scene.
His abductors made contact with his family two days later on March 24. They warned the family not to cooperate with the police and then demanded R2.5 million in cash. They promised to release Katumba within an hour after the ransom payment.
Katumba’s friends and his family raised R1.5 million which was dropped at an open field on the outskirts of Ballito, as instructed by the kidnappers.
However, after the cash drop, the family never heard from the kidnappers again.
South African police informed the family they believe Katumba was shot dead on the same day the money was paid.

Missing Zimbabwean Businessman Evans Katumba Found Dead In Durban, SA

Three boys from Chinhoyi aged between 11 and 13, managed to escape from their abductors on the 27th day of December 2023 at around 0900 hours. The boys were taken while they were gathering grass for rabbit feed in a bush near the Rusununguko suburb.
According to a leaked police memo, an unknown assailant approached the boys, armed with a machete, and forced them to walk to a secluded area over 10 kilometres away. Read the memo in part:

On the 27th day of December 2023 at around 0900 hours and at Rusununguko bushy area, three male juveniles (names and addresses withheld) went to the bush in Rusununguko to fetch rabbit feed (grass). 
  
Whilst they were busy gathering the grass they were approached by one unknown adult male who was holding a machete and he ordered them to walk in a single file in front of him and they complied for fear of their lives. 
  
He crossed Hunyani River with the kids and walked with them for a distance of about 11km until they reached a place in the bush where there was a parked black unregistered Caravan kombi.

The memo states that two other men wearing black clothing and masks disembarked from the vehicle, tied up the boys’ hands and legs, and placed them inside sacks. The boys were then put in the kombi and driven for about two kilometres before being taken out, undressed, and forced to hand over their belongings.
However, the kidnappers’ plan was interrupted when they heard voices nearby, <a href="https://www.newzimbabwe.com/kidnappers-on-the-prowl-3-chinhoyi-boys-in-miraculous-escape-from-abductors/">NewZimbabwe</a> reported. While one of the kidnappers stayed behind to pack the boys’ clothes, the boys saw an opportunity to escape and fled from the scene. The incident was reported to the police, but no stolen items were recovered.

3 Chinhoyi Boys Aged Between 11 And 13, Escape From Abductors

Zimbabwe’s main opposition political party, the Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC), has claimed that one of its members, Sylvester Chiundiza, was abducted in Epworth and forced to drink “poison” on Wednesday.
CCC said that Chiundiza was kidnapped by unknown persons around 5 PM, detained and tortured before being dumped at midnight.
<a href="https://www.newsday.co.zw/local-news/article/200020624/ccc-activist-kidnapped-tortured">NewsDay</a> reported CCC spokesperson Promise Mkwananzi as saying Chiundiza was hospitalised after the attack. He said:

We tried to make a police report but the police refused to take our statement saying Chiundiza should make the report on his own. He is still in hospital.
</blockquote>
In November this year, another CCC activist, Tapfumaneyi Masaya, was allegedly abducted by suspected State security agents in Mabvuku and was later found dead.
The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) said it is treating the matter as murder.

CCC Activist Abducted And Forced To Drink Poison - Party

The US and UK embassies in Zimbabwe have expressed concern over the abduction and murder of CCC activist Tapfumanei Masaya by suspected state security agents on Saturday.
Posting on X Tuesday, 14 November, the US embassy called for a full investigation into the death of the opposition activist. It said:

The United States is alarmed by the reported abduction and death of an opposition campaign worker in #Zimbabwe. We call for a full investigation by the local authorities, peaceful preparations for the December by-elections and an end to political violence.
</blockquote>
Also posting on X, the UK embassy in Zimbabwe expressed condolences over the murder of Masaya. It said:

Saddened and concerned by the death of Pastor Tapfumanei Masaya following his abduction, after other alleged incidents in recent weeks. We express our deepest condolences to his family and friends.

American And British Embassies Say Concerned By Murder Of CCC Activist, Tapfumanei Masaya

Police have confirmed that the body that was found in the Cleveland area, Harare on Sunday is that of Tapfumanei Masaya.
Masaya (51), who was a CCC activist and a pastor at Pillar of the World Church, was allegedly abducted by unknown people in Mabvuku, Harare, on Saturday.
His party said he was abducted while conducting a door-to-door political campaign to drum up support for Munyaradzi Kufahakutizwi, the CCC candidate for upcoming parliamentary by-elections in Mabvuku-Tafara.
Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi on Tuesday said Masaya’s body was identified by his next of kin. He said:

Reference is made to the Police’s press statement issued on 13th November 2023 in connection with the body found at the intersection of Arcturus Road and Lobho Road, Cleveland area, Harare on 12th November 2023. 
The Zimbabwe Republic Police confirms that the body has been identified by the next of kin as that of Tapfumanei Masaya (51).
The Police is currently conducting comprehensive investigations on the circumstances surrounding Tapfumanei Masaya’s death while at the same time waiting for the full post-mortem report.

Meanwhile, CCC said that Masaya sustained severe injuries all over his body following his abduction. The opposition party said:

Pastor Tapfumanei Masaya suffered severe wounds throughout his body during his harrowing ordeal at the hands of the regime in Harare, ultimately leading to his tragic death. His body is now in a decomposed state due to the injection of a harmful substance.
Hon Kufa has shared this distressing information after personally examining the body at Parirenyatwa. There are worms emerging from his body.

Kufahakutizwi is reportedly considering pulling out of the 09 December by-election. He is asking himself if it is “worth it” running in the vote after the clergyman was abducted and murdered while campaigning for him.

Police Confirm Death Of Tapfumanei Masaya

President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s spokesperson George Charamba has accused the opposition Citizens’ Coalition for Change (CCC) of stealing corpses from mortuaries in an attempt to score cheap political points.
In a post on X (formerly Twitter), using his @dhonzamusoro007 handle, Charamba claimed CCC tried to use a corpse found on the road in a bid to prevent its disintegration.
Responding to CCC activist Tererai Obey Sithole who had accused the Government of trying to eradicate the poor instead of dealing with poverty, Charamba said:

BIGGEST MISTAKE YENYU MAYERO is imagining that you can re-pivot and scaffold your disintegrating party on any corpse found on the road. It will not work. Nothing beats a Constitution, Structures and Wise Leadership. Zvimwe zvese idrama chete!!!!! Tinoteerera mapurisa anehutsome hwekuwongorora mangava. Kwete imi vana muzapu!!!!!🤣🤣🤣🤣

In another post, Charamba warned CCC that they were inviting trouble by allegedly stealing corpses for political purposes. He wrote:

MaYERO, MUKADA KUSHANDISA ZVITUNHA MUPOLITICS, TINOSANGANA KUBWIRO NEKUMAKUVA. MUSAZOTI MAVARA AZARE VHU! We will fight you on any terrain of your choosing. Without blinking. Makajaidzwa!!! We cannot have politics of cannibalising zvitunha to make up for own blatant political failures. Never!!!!!

This comes after two CCC activists, Tapfumanei Masaya, who was a pastor at Pillar of the World Church, and Jeffrey Kalosi were allegedly abducted by unknown people in Mabvuku, Harare, on Saturday.
Masaya’s lifeless body was found dumped at the intersection of Arcturus and Lobho Road in the Cleveland area in Harare on Sunday.
Kalosi was allegedly assaulted before being dumped near a place called Chabwino.
The two activists were abducted while conducting a door-to-door political campaign to drum up support for Munyaradzi Kufahakutizwi, the CCC candidate for upcoming parliamentary by-elections.
Meanwhile, according to the Zimbabwe Lawyers for Human Rights (ZLHR), Masaya’s wife, Maria Zhuwawo, has together with other family members and friends identified the body of her husband and the clergyman at Parirenyatwa Hospital.
Bulawayo mayor David Coltart (CCC), urged the international community to speak against the “pattern” of abductions in Zimbabwe. Coltart posted on X:

I am deeply concerned by the spate of abductions in Zimbabwe. The systematic abduction and torture of opposition activists by state agents is a crime against humanity.
1. On 2 September 2023 CCC Councillor, Womberaishe Nhende, was abducted and badly tortured, resulting in his hospitalization.
2. On 24 October 2023 MP Hon. James Chidhakwa, was abducted and tortured.
3. On 1 November 2023 MP Hon. Takudzwa Ngadziore, was abducted and tortured.
4. On 11 November 2023 CCC supporter and pastor Tapfumanei Masaya, was abducted and went MISSING. Last night his brutally beaten body was found on the outskirts of Harare.
These men have generally &amp; seemingly been abducted in broad daylight by state agents, some carrying AK-47 rifles.
The police have seemingly done nothing to investigate these abductions and no one has been arrested despite the fact that in some of the cases, photographs were taken of the perpetrators and they have been named.
The silence of many in the international community has given ZANU PF licence to continue.
Unless the international community speaks out this pattern will grow.

Charamba Accuses CCC Of Stealing Corpses From Morgues

The late Citizens’ Coalition for Change (CCC) activist Tapfumanei Masaya, whose body was found on Sunday, was allegedly abducted by unidentified people near Chizhanje in Mabvuku, Harare.
According to the Zimbabwe Lawyers for Human Rights (ZLHR), the people who allegedly abducted Masaya were in a three-vehicle convoy.
Another CCC activist, Jeffrey Kalosi, was also abducted and bundled in a different car and assaulted before being dumped near Chabwino. The ZLHR said:

On Monday, our lawyer Innocent Gonese spent the day in Mabvuku/Tafara getting instructions from Maria Zhuwao, the wife of Tapfumanei Masaya, who was abducted and disappeared over the weekend.
Gonese was told that Masaya had not been located since Saturday when he was abducted by some unidentified people near a place called Chizhanje in Mabvuku while conducting a door-to-door political campaign to drum up support for Munyaradzi Kufahakutizwi, the opposition @CCCZimbabwe party’s candidate for upcoming parliamentary by-elections.
The people who abducted Masaya were reportedly in a 3-vehicle convoy &amp; he was bundled into one of the vehicles which looked like a grey Toyota Fortuner.
Jeffrey Kalosi was also abducted &amp; bundled into a double cab vehicle &amp; blindfolded &amp; assaulted before being dumped near a place called Chabwino.
The vehicle in which Masaya was bundled reportedly went in a different direction &amp; he was never seen since then.
Gonese visited Mabvuku Police Station to check on the whereabouts of Masaya &amp; to get an update on police investigations &amp;he was referred to Harare Central Police
By late Monday, Gonese was working on filing a court application at the High Court for habeas corpus to compel whoever is holding Masaya to release him.

Late on Monday, Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi said a body was found at the intersection of Arcturus and Lobho Road in the Cleveland area in Harare on Sunday.
Nyathi said that the identity of the victim was yet to be established.

Mabvuku CCC Activist's Abductors Were In A Three-vehicle Convoy - Lawyers

CCC activist, Bishop Tapfumaneyi Masaya, who was allegedly abducted by unknown assailants last week in Mabvuku while campaigning for the party’s candidate in the 09 December by-elections, Munyaradzi Febion Kufahakutizwi, has been found dead.
Posting on X (formerly Twitter), CCC deputy spokesperson Gift “Ostallos” Siziba announced Masaya’s death and demanded justice for the slain political activist. He said:

Our Change Champion, Bishop Tapfumaneyi Masaya, who was abducted in Mabvuku while campaigning, has been found dead.
They recalled a legitimately elected MP of Mabvuku, Hon. Kufa. Today, this has cost an innocent life. He shall have justice.

Meanwhile, Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi said a body was found at the intersection of Arcturus and Lobho Road in the Cleveland area in Harare. He said:

CCC Activist Allegedly Abducted Found Dead

The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has been challenged to respond to posts on social media by citizens in the same way.
This comes after the ZRP took more than 24 hours to react to social media posts about the alleged abduction and torture of CCC MP Takudzwa Ngadziore by gunmen on Wednesday.
Ngadziore, who is a CCC’s Youth Quota MP, recorded his abduction live on Facebook on Wednesday morning before he was reportedly taken to Mazowe where he was tortured before being stripped naked and dumped.
It was only on Thursday evening that the police posted a short statement on their X page saying they were trying to contact the victim to gather facts about the alleged abduction. Said ZRP:

The ZRP has been keenly following an allegation of abduction and torture on Social Media. The Police informs the public that no such case has been reported.
</blockquote>

Posting on the X social media platform this Friday, Mt Pleasant MP, Fadzayi Mahere (CCC), contrasted the Police’s response to her “dead baby tweet” and their reaction to reports on Ngadziore’s abduction and torture. <a href="https://x.com/advocatemahere/status/1720371127942304213?s=20">Said Mahere</a>:

Within hours of the “dead baby tweet”, they were at my house in an unmarked vehicle. They said they were after me for a tweet.
I was arrested &amp; prosecuted. Now, they play dumb because a CCC member has been abducted.
How do we have confidence in you when you desecrate the very Constitution you are meant to uphold?

Journalist Blessed Mhlanga argued that it doesn’t make sense for the police to say they were awaiting a report before they commenced investigations into the alleged abduction. <a href="https://x.com/bbmhlanga/status/1720318851534016598?s=20">He said</a>:

Police can investigate and arrest criminals even without anyone reporting. Crimes are committed against the State, not individuals. Who reported against the @ZESN1 staff arrested for parallel tabulation of results?

Responding to Government spokesperson Nick Mangwana who said that they had gathered from the police that the matter had not been reported, self-exiled former cabinet minister Walter Mzembi said:

Is @PoliceZimbabwe so complacent let alone our security forces that they will wait for a Police Report when there is footage of people marauding with AK47 Assault Rifles in suburbs substituting them in their role unless the only explanation is that they know the people in the footage and it was an authorised operation?

Police Challenged To Respond To "Social Media" Posts In The Same Way

<a href="https://pindula.co.zw/Linda_Masarira">Linda Masarira</a>, the leader of LEAD Party, has suggested that the alleged abduction of CCC MP Takudzwa Ngadziore was staged in a bid to cast the spotlight on Zimbabwe ahead of the SADC Extraordinary Summit which resumes in Luanda, Angola on Saturday, 04 November 2023.
Ngadziore recorded the alleged abduction incident live on Facebook as the gunmen chased after him in Harare on 01 November.
CC deputy spokesperson Gift Siziba later posted on X saying Ngadziore was tortured and dumped in Christon Bank in Mazoe.
However, Masarira said the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) should investigate the alleged abduction, saying it “doesn’t make sense at all” that the State would abduct Ngadziore, assault him and dump him for no reason. She wrote on X:

On a serious note, what threat does Takudzwa Ngadziore pose to the state that he would be allegedly abducted and dumped like what CCC Cdes are saying?
Is the state so gullible to just abduct, assault and dump for no reason? This story doesn’t make sense at all.
A few months ago, someone was attacked by men who he had stepped toes on a Rufaro marketing deal, and it was alleged that it is the system.
Even those who get assaulted after having differences with their own friends or partners claim it is CIO or ZANU PF.
My appeal is for [ZRP] to look for the man with the gun and investigate this case thoroughly. His face is very visible, and we need to get to the bottom of all these shenanigans that continue to pose a non-existent threat to our political economy.

Masarira queried why abductions of opposition activists “always” happen just before some regional or international meeting, implying that Ngadziore staged the kidnapping. She said:
<blockquote>
Is it a coincidence that these abductions always happen a few days before some regional or international meeting? ZANU or CIO always strikes when SADC, AU, UN or any international forum?
I am game to manhunt the man with the gun, let us look for him and effect a citizen’s arrest.
</blockquote>
She, however, didn’t indicate how unarmed citizens can arrest a man armed with an assault rifle.
The SADC virtual Extra-Ordinary Summit held on Tuesday, 31 October adjourned after preliminary discussions on the political and security situation in the Democratic Republic of Congo.
Later that day, the SADC Secretariat in Gaborone, Botswana issued a statement saying the SADC leaders decided to resume the discussions in Luanda, Angola on Saturday.

Takudzwa Ngadziore's Alleged Abduction Doesn't Make Sense - Linda Masarira

Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) Member of Parliament,  Takudzwa Ngadziore, who is currently Zimbabwe’s youngest MP, was abducted by men armed with AK47s in Harare on Wednesday morning.
Ngadziore recorded the incident live on Facebook as the gunmen chased after him, demanding him to stop.
CCC deputy spokesperson Gift Siziba later posted on X saying Ngadziore was tortured and dumped in Christon Bank in Mazoe. He said:

We have received information that Hon Takudzwa Ngadziore was tortured and dumped in Christon Bank in Mazoe. Our welfare and legal teams have been dispatched to locate him.
</blockquote>
Former Finance Minister Tendai Biti, who is also a former Harare East MP said:

Abductions and forced disappearances are a crime against humanity. For so long these have gone unabated in this country.
Only last Hon Chidakwa was abducted and left for dead in Arcturus. This impunity must stop and the right to life &amp; the rule of law must be respected.

After seeking information from the public, the police arrested Rumbidzai Nyamurowa, also known as Madzimai Getrude, at a residence in Dangamvura, <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Mutare/">Mutare. </a>
In a statement seen by Pindula News, the police said the suspect admitted to kidnapping the baby as a ploy to deceive her husband, who resides in South Africa, into thinking she had given birth. The husband allegedly intended to divorce her due to her inability to conceive. Read the statement:

Reference is made to the ZRP post on X platform on 07/10/23 in which information was being sought to account for a self proclaimed prophetess , Rumbidzai Nyamurowa (28) alias Madzimai Getrude, who kidnapped a baby boy (1 month) during a spiritual healing session on 06/10/23 at a bushy area near Mutare Teachers College. On 09/10/23, detectives in Mutare acted on received information and arrested the suspect at a house in Area 16, Nyamauru, Dangamvura, Mutare. Upon arrest, the suspect confessed that she kidnapped the baby to hoodwink her husband, who is based in South Africa, into believing that she had given birth to the baby. The husband was allegedly harbouring intentions of divorcing her for failing to conceive. Meanwhile, the baby was reunited with his mother.

On October 6, 2023, Nyamurowa who was posing as a prophetess kidnapped an ill baby in Mutare at a shrine near Mutare Teachers College. She instructed the baby’s mother to fetch herbs for the baby’s healing and while the mother was away, Nyamurowa took the baby and left.

Police Arrest Self-proclaimed Prophetess Who Kidnapped A Baby

The opposition CCC has blamed the Government for the alleged abduction and torture of one of its newly-elected councillors in Harare on Saturday night.
Posting on social media site X, CCC said Glen Norah councillor, Womberaishe Nhende was abducted, tortured, drugged, and dumped in Mapinga, Mashonaland West Province. <a href="https://twitter.com/CCCZimbabwe/status/1698219574078935338?s=20">Reads the post</a>:

…our Glen Norah councilor, Womberaishe Nhende… was abducted, tortured, drugged, and dumped in Mapinga by the Harare regime. His only “crime” is being a member of CCC.
The panic displayed by the Harare regime is indicative of their knowledge that they did not win the 2023 election.

According to Change Radio, Nhende’s assailants used two vehicles, a brown Toyota Fortuner and a silver Toyota Belta. <a href="https://twitter.com/ChangeRadioZW/status/1698131265755418718?s=20">It said</a>:

CCC youth leader Womberai Nhende and one other individual were abducted at around 10 PM yesterday.
The assailants used two vehicles: a brown Toyota Fortuner and a silver Toyota Belta.

This comes after another CCC activist, Nelson Mukwenha, was allegedly abducted by suspected State security agents on 26 August.
According to Amnesty International, on 26 August 2023, Mukwenha was part of a crowd of people that prevented suspected security officials from abducting Promise Mkwananzi, spokesperson of the CCC, during a press conference in Harare.
Later that evening, Mukwenha was reportedly picked up by suspected security officials at his home in Highfields, Harare.
Mukwenha was then tortured and dumped in a forest in Mapinga.

Newly-elected CCC Councillor Abducted And Tortured | Report

The Zimbabwe Lawyers for Human Rights (ZLHR) has urged the government to criminalise abductions and enforced disappearances in accordance with the country’s constitution. On the occasion of the International Day of the Victims of Enforced Disappearances, the human rights organization emphasized the need for the government to ratify the United Nations International Convention for the Protection of All Persons from Enforced Disappearance. ZHLR said:

While in Section 53, the Constitution expressly outlaws torture or cruel, inhuman or degrading treatment or punishment, the lack of legislation that criminalises abduction and enforced disappearances has created a gap in domestic law and fuelled impunity.
</blockquote>
ZHLR said the recent surge in reported cases of enforced disappearances, particularly targeting government critics, highlights the urgency for Zimbabwean authorities to establish a legal framework that prevents such grave human rights violations and ensures justice and redress for victims and their families. ZLHR also called upon both state and non-state actors to take effective measures in preventing enforced disappearances and holding the responsible parties accountable.
Several government critics, including opposition members and human rights defenders, have made claims of being abducted by suspected state security agents. Some notable cases include Itai Dzamara, a well-known activist advocating for political change, he was abducted in 2015 and has not been seen since.
Another one is Jestina Mukoko, a human rights activist and journalist. She was abducted in 2008 and held incommunicado for several weeks before being charged with plotting to overthrow the government. Tawanda Muchehiwa, a journalism student, was abducted in 2020 and allegedly tortured by suspected state security agents. Joana Mamombe, Cecilia Chimbiri, and Netsai Marova claimed that they were abducted by suspected state security agents in 2020 after participating in a protest and reportedly subjected to torture and sexual assault.
The government denies these allegations, claiming they are staged to tarnish its image. Authorities often attribute the abductions to a “third force” aiming to discredit the government. Some analysts argue that these abductions are intended to instil fear among government critics who expose human rights violations and mismanagement by the government.

ZLHR Urges Zimbabwe To Criminalise Abductions And Enforced Disappearances

A pupil at Shabani Primary School in Zvishavane, Midlands Province recently survived a kidnapping attempt by two masked men while on her way home.
The suspects reportedly followed the girl from behind, sprayed a white substance in her face, and tried to shove her into their car.
The incident was revealed in a letter by the school’s headmistress who went on to implore parents to ensure their children were also safe outside school premises.
In a letter addressed to parents, the school head, who only signed off as Matutu, said the attempted kidnapping took place on 08 June.
Matutu, however, did not disclose what Grade the child was or her age. <a href="https://www.zimlive.com/primary-school-pupil-survives-kidnapping-incident/">Part of the letter reads</a>:

Three unknown assailants in a blue Toyota Hiace were involved in the kidnapping.
The girl managed to escape from the three men after they had parked the vehicle in the Hillside area and hid in a nearby maize field.

Kidnappers Target Schoolchildren

Police in Midlands Province have arrested a 16-year-old housemaid who was employed in Zvishavane for kidnapping her employer’s eight-month-old baby and for stealing from her.
The maid kidnapped the baby a day after she was employed.
ZRP Midlands provincial spokesperson Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko confirmed the arrest to <a href="https://www.newzimbabwe.com/https-www-newzimbabwe-com-maid-arrested-after-kidnapping-employers-eight-month-old-baby-a-day-after-being-hired/">NewZimbabwe.com</a>, saying the maid is from Mushandike Resettlement Scheme in Masvingo. He said:

The Zimbabwe Republic Police confirms the arrest of a female juvenile aged 16 of Village 15 Mushandike Resettlement Scheme, Masvingo, in connection with a case of kidnapping after she stole an eight-month-old baby.
In brief, the circumstances are that on 9 April 2023, the suspect, Evidence Hove got employed as a domestic maid by Memory Sibanda aged 38 in Mandava Township in Zvishavane.
The following morning on 10 April 2023 she was left taking care of four children aged 14, 12, 8 years and the youngest aged 8 months, while the employer went away.

Police said soon after the employer left, Evidence stole US$60 and went away with the eight-month-old Junior Marenga leaving the other three children behind.
Sibanda was informed about the incident and when the maid failed to return a report was made to ZRP Zvishavane.
The police arrested the maid on 12 April at around 10 AM at Village 7 Sovelele in Sandawana, with the baby in her custody.
Police took the victim to Zvishavane District Hospital for examinations.
Inspector Mahoko urged members of the public to ensure that they employ housemaids who have traceable records.
He said prospective employers should have their maids vetted by police before employing them. This service is done freely at any police station.
He also implored parents and guardians not to entrust or leave their children under the custody of strangers.

Housemaid (16) Kidnaps Employee's Baby A Day After Being Hired

A 16-year-old girl from Gokwe who was allegedly abducted by suspected ZANU PF supporters was dumped in Kadoma.
Chairmaine Chiremba, a learner at Njelele High School, was kidnapped in the early hours of Wednesday according to her father Christopher.
Christopher told the <a href="https://newsday.co.zw/southerneye/local-news/article/200009575/abducted-gokwe-girl-dumped-in-kadoma">Southern Eye</a> that Chairmaine was at Kadoma Police Station. He said:

I am currently getting information that she is housed at Kadoma police and is safe.
She was dumped along the highway by a black (Toyota) Wish car with no number plates.
She is still in custody at Kadoma Police Station and they said they are making arrangements to ferry her to Gokwe centre.

He said they realised Charmaine was missing when her mother went to wake her up to prepare for school. 
Her mother found blood stains on the veranda of their bedroom and a note written ‘usivhotela ZANU PF mwana tatora’.
The note was written in a Shona dialect spoken in Gokwe, translated to “you should vote for ZANU PF, we have taken the child”.
Chiremba suspects his child was targeted because, in 2013, his wife contested for councillor under the MDC-T banner and lost. He added:

Abducted Gokwe Girl (16) Found In Kadoma

A 16-year-old girl from Gokwe went missing on Wednesday and her parents suspect she was abducted by ZANU PF supporters.
Christopher Chiremba told <a href="https://www.zimlive.com/girl-16-gone-missing-parents-suspect-abducted-by-zanu-pf-supporters/">ZimLive</a> that his daughter Charmaine Chiremba, a Form Three learner at Njelele High School, went missing in the early hours of Wednesday. He said:

We need assistance to look for our 16-year-old daughter Charmaine Else Chiremba.
On Wednesday morning, we heard footsteps outside our house.
I went to investigate and saw Charmaine and her sister coming from the toilet and I went back to sleep.

Gokwe Girl (16) Gone Missing, Parents Fear She Was Abducted By ZANU PF Supporters

Four (4) female Zimbabwe Revenue Authority (ZIMRA) employees were reportedly abducted and held for ransom in Musina, South Africa, on Monday night.
The victims, who work at the Beitbridge border post, had entered South Africa at around 3 PM to do some shopping and were all in ZIMRA uniforms.
<a href="https://www.zimlive.com/2022/09/4-zimra-officers-kidnapped-held-for-ransom-in-south-africa/">ZimLive</a> reported a source as saying the four we kidnapped at gunpoint and robbed of all their possessions before ransom demands were made. Said the source:

They were all in ZIMRA uniform. The kidnappers must have known who their targets were.
The kidnappers demanded R10 000 to free them, but they didn’t have the money on them.
The ZIMRA officers were made to contact their colleagues at the border and one of them had an FNB account, and a transfer was effected.
… The kidnappers were apparently Zimbabwean because they spoke Shona.

The ZIMRA officers were reportedly released at around 12 AM on Tuesday.
Limpopo Police spokesperson Brigadier Motlafela Mojapelo had not confirmed the incident on Tuesday while a ZIMRA spokesman said they were still gathering details.

Four ZIMRA Officials Kidnapped, Held For Ransom In SA By "Zimbabweans"

Police are searching for the ZANU PF youth chairman for Bumba District in Chimanimani, Nicholas Madzianike, who allegedly went missing on 19 June.
Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) national police spokesperson, Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi confirmed the case to The Herald. He said:

We are investigating the case in which Nicholas Madzianike allegedly disappeared from Bumba Business Centre on June 19.
Police are on the ground gathering facts on what happened on that day. We will give a detailed statement when we gather all the facts.
</blockquote>
Madziyanike, a ZANU PF Youth League chairman for Ward 6 Chayamiti, was reportedly dragged out of Chisedze Bar at Bumba Business Centre over an undisclosed issue and has not been seen since then.
Three suspects, Chengetanai Musudu, Hakata Musudu and Aaron Chizemo, are assisting police with investigations.
One of the suspects is alleged to have been found in possession of Madzianike’s Itel A52 cellphone.

"Abducted" ZANU PF Chairman Still Missing

Concern has been raised over the safety of ZimLive editor Mduduzi Mathuthu after five men who claimed to be police officers visited his Bulawayo home on Friday around midday. Mathuthu was not present at the time.
The men, who were reportedly driving in a silver sedan vehicle without number plates, did not show their police badges and declined a request to leave their contacts.
The men instructed those present that Mathuthu should present himself to Detective Sergeant Patrice Nyanhete at Office 12 at the Law and Order section at Bulawayo Central Police Station.
However, when Mathuthu’s lawyer Nqobani Sithole later went to the police station, he was advised that Nyanhete was “off duty.”
Sithole also said Law and Order detectives present said Mathuthu was not a person of interest. Said, Sithole:

I’m now more concerned than I was when I went to the police station. If the people at Mathuthu’s house were not police officers and given that they didn’t want to be identified by driving a vehicle without number plates, then it’s safe to assume that this was going to be an abduction and not an arrest.

Lawyers Raise Alarm After "Detectives" Raid Journalist's Home

A 22-year-old Glen View man was allegedly sexually abused by two women for three days at an unidentified place.
The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) said the victim was kidnapped by two men who blindfolded him and drove away for about 40 minutes to the place where the women took turns sexually abusing him.
ZRP spokesperson in Harare Province, Inspector Julius Chakanza, confirmed the case saying the victim was referred to Sally Mugabe Hospital for treatment. Said Insp Chakanza:

Police are investigating a case of kidnapping and aggravated indecent assault of a man that took place in Glen View.
Circumstances were that on May 1, 2022, at about 2015 hours, the complainant was walking in Glen View 1, due north towards Patrenda Way, when he was approached by a black motor vehicle.
The vehicle was reported to have stopped in front of the complainant and a man pushed the complainant into the vehicle and sped off.
In the vehicle, there were two men and two women and one of the accused persons was reported to have blindfolded the victim with a black cloth.
The victim was driven to a house, after travelling for almost 40 minutes, and lost his cellphone and US$40.

Insp Chakanza added that the victim said that he was sexually abused by one of the female members of the gang.
The following day, he was given bread and eggs by another female member of the gang before she sexually abused him. Added Insp Chakanza:

On May 3, 2022, the complainant was blindfolded, tied on both hands and legs and taken back to Glen View, where he was stabbed once on his left shoulder.

Two Women Sexually Abuse Kidnapped Man (22)

Suspected ZANU PF activists who allegedly murdered a Citizens for Coalition for Change (CCC) Kwekwe activist in February are reportedly threatening witnesses against testifying.
Mboneni Ncube was stabbed twice with a spear at a CCC rally held at Mbizo shopping centre and died on admission to Kwekwe Central Hospital.
The deceased’s sister, Judith Ncube, said she was kidnapped on Thursday evening by suspected ZANU PF activists who threatened to kill her if she continued demanding answers into Mboneni’s murder.
Speaking to The Standard, Judith said she now feared for her life following the abduction incident. She said:

It was around 4 pm when the incident happened. They grabbed and bundled me into their vehicle.
They took me to a ZANU PF base in Kwekwe where they threatened to make me disappear if I kept on pressing for answers to the killing of my brother.
His killers are known and all I want is closure and justice.
</blockquote>
The incident was reported to the police and the case number is CRO/04/22.
Also speaking to The Standard, Judith’s lawyer Darlington Marange of the Zimbabwe Human Rights NGO Forum said:

She identified some of the culprits that were implicated in the murder, including some known ruling party bigwigs.
She has been saying that police are refusing to take the names of the perpetrators.
We are now considering visiting the police to iron this out because it falls under their duties to take the report as is and to investigate.
It appears there is some resistance but this is something that we have to iron out.
We are also considering getting a peace order against the people who have been harassing her.
She now lives in fear and we have to now take that route of a peace order to ensure her safety.
The issue of her safety is now of paramount importance outside other legal routes that we want to take.

Other people willing to testify against Ncube’s killers were being harassed constantly, Mbizo MP-elect Settlement Chikwinya claimed.
The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) arrested 16 ZANU PF youths for Ncube’s murder but later released 11 of them.
The late Ncube had recently remarried following the death of his first wife, with whom he had an eight-year-old daughter.

Murdered CCC Activist's Sister Abducted By Suspected ZANU PF Activists

The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has dismissed as false claims that former Harare mayor and Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) executive member, Herbert Gomba was abducted.
Social media reports on Saturday alleged that Gomba was taken away from his home by a group of men claiming to be from the Criminal Investigations Department (CID).
The unknown men who allegedly abducted Gomba were reportedly using three plateless white Isuzu vehicles.
However, the ZRP refuted the claims, saying Gomba is facing charges of perjury and violation of the Electoral Act. Police posted on Twitter:

Gomba surrendered himself to the police in the company of his lawyer Harrison Nkomo and is in custody.
From our investigations, there is no credible evidence of him having been abducted.

No Credible Evidence Gomba Was Abducted - Police

The mother of a seven-year-old boy who was kidnapped in Zimbabwe four years ago and smuggled to Kenya says she is losing hope of ever seeing him again.
This comes after authorities in the East African country reportedly failed to find him at the children’s home where he was said to be.
Awakhiwe Ackim Ncube was abducted while he was playing with other children at his grandfather’s homestead in Nkayi.
He was found at the Kenyan border and was taken to Happy Children’s Home in Nairobi after the authorities in Kenya had failed to locate his parents.
A taskforce is led by the Children’s Services in Kenya failed to locate Awakhiwe at Happy Children’s Home, and will now search for him in all children’s homes in Kenya.
Awakhiwe’s mother, Nobekezelo Maseko, spoke with a woman at Happy Children’s Home some time back but failed to get the name or the phone number of the woman she spoke with.
The International Organisation for Migration(IOM) said it was difficult to locate the child. IOM representative, Tsetse Mkhonto, said:

The Kenya Children’s Services has formed a committee that is already on the ground investigating the whereabouts of the kid.
It is a challenging task because we have not yet found the lady whom the parents had contacted, if we manage to get her contacts it will be a conclusion of the matter.

Maseko revealed that she was invited for an interview by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID). She said:

They wanted to know whether I have a passport or not and I would be able to go and take my son when he is found and I told them that I have nothing. I am now losing hope again after it was restored.

Kenyan Taskforce Searches For Missing Zimbabwean Boy

A knife-wielding robber who was disguised as a woman robbed a 44-year-old woman of US$70, two cellphones and two satchels that had clothes in Rusape on Monday.
The robber, who had offered a lift to his victim, then abducted the woman’s three children and later dumped them near Magamba Turn-off in Rusape
Acting Manicaland provincial police spokesperson, Assistant Inspector Wiseman confirmed the incident. He said:

Ms Itai Mutungambera boarded a silver Honda Fit together with her three children. The driver, who was disguised as a woman and wearing a dress, diverted the route and proceeded to Tsanzaguru instead of Mabvazuva where the victims intended to go.
The suspect produced a knife and asked Ms Mutungambera to surrender all her belongings.
He shoved her out of the vehicle and sped off with the three children. Ms Mutungambera made a police report at Rusape Central Police Station.
The three children were later found near Magamba Turn-Off in Rusape where they were dumped. They did not sustain any injuries.

Robber Disguised As A Woman Abducts 3 Children

Police at Ermelo in Mpumalanga Province have finally located a daughter that was reportedly kidnapped and separated from her family for over 20 years.
According to Mpumalanga South Africa Police Service (SAPS) spokesperson Brigadier Selvy Mohlala, a 16-year-old woman gave birth to a baby girl on 23 March 2001.
Both mother and child were later discharged that day from the Ermelo Provincial Hospital. Said Mohlala:

As they were on their way home to Breyten, in the company of the baby’s aunt, they met a certain woman who is said to have offered to assist by holding the baby as her mom was experiencing some pains and dizziness whilst the aunt had visited a shop nearby.

The said woman then took the baby, promised to return and went towards the direction where the baby’s aunt had gone.
The aunt later returned, but the stranger did not come back and a search for the unknown woman and the newborn proved futile. Mohlala explained further:

The incident was then reported to the police at Ermelo, and a case of child abduction was opened.
Police commenced with their search, but there was no information that came forth until 29 November 2021 when the team of investigators got some leads into their investigation.

The Police conducted some forensic tests where DNA samples were collected, and the results showed that the missing child had indeed been located.
Police arrested a 50-year-old woman who is alleged to have been the one behind the abduction that occurred 20 years ago. She has been charged accordingly.
She appeared in the Ermelo Magistrate’s Court on 30 November 2021, and she was granted bail of R1 000. Her case was postponed to 18 January 2021.
Police said the now 20-year-old woman who was abducted as a baby has been kept in a safe place where she is receiving counselling.
The SAPS said “hopefully” the 20-year-old would be reunited with her biological family soon.

SA: Baby Girl Kidnapped Soon After Birth Found 20 Years Later

A heavily pregnant woman was kidnapped and detained for three hours in the bush by a knife-wielding man who inflicted cuts, bruises and bites on her body.
The unidentified man abducted the woman from a maternity waiting home at Manama Mission Hospital in Matabeleland South in the early hours of Thursday.
The shelter has no security details manning the premises and sources told CITE that the kidnapped woman was s_xually abused.
However, in a report addressed to the District Medical Officer, Gwanda District Nursing Officer, a T Sibanda noted that the woman was “assaulted, threatened and was not s_xually abused by the young man.” Said Sibanda:
<blockquote>On the 23rd of June 2021, Manama Mission Hospital made a report of the attack on women in the shelter at 12 midnight by an unknown person (male) wielding a knife.
The young man harassed and attacked pregnant women in the shelter. He took their clothes and phones, put them in a bag and fled into the bush with one pregnant mother for 3 hours.
At 0330 hours, he brought back the pregnant woman who had suffered some injuries (cuts, bruises and human bites).
He then ran away upon being pursued by the ZRP and some staff members.</blockquote>
The hospital officials have since resolved to assign two general hands to act as security guards at the hospital round the clock.
Meanwhile, most of the women at the shelter have returned to their homes amid concerns from health officials that this could lead to an increase in home deliveries.
Contacted for comment by CITE, Matabeleland South police said they have not yet received the report.
