Mbuya Maud Muzenda declared a national heroine, burial on Saturday

Mbuya Maud Muzenda, the widow of the late former Vice President Simon Muzenda has been declared a national heroine and will be buried at the National Heroes Acre on Saturday. Mbuya Muzenda died on Tuesday at the Avenues Clinic.

She will be buried at the same time as George Rutanhire who died on Saturday last week. He was also declared a national hero.

The National Heroes Acre is Zimbabwe's national shrine where national heroes are buried. It was established in 1980 soon after the independence of Zimbabwe. The area was located on the heart of Harare in the Warren Park suburb. Read More

George Rutanhire was a former liberation war veteran and Zanu-PF Politburo member who died in August 2017. Rutanhire became infamous after he attacked and attempted to discredit former vice president Joice Mujuru by claiming that during the Second Chimurenga, she was a woman of loose morals who had only managedto rise through the ranks because she used her sexuality.
