18 people killed by landmines since 2012, ZNA launches community awareness campaign

Speaking during a community awareness campaign at Birchenough Bridge Primary School yesterday, Officer Commanding 3 Engineers Squad, Captain Cephas Muradzikwa said that 18 people have died from landmines in Manicaland Province since 2012. He said that 14 incurred injuries.

As a result, he Zimbabwe National Army (ZNA) has launched anti-personnel landmine awareness campaigns in more than 10 schools and public institutions in Chimanimani, Nyanga, Chipinge and Buhera districts. He urged people to notify the police, army or chiefs whenever they come across landmines or explosive remnants of war. He dispelled the myth that red mercury is found in landmines.
