MDC-T says decision to award BVR Kits tender to Chinese firm was biased and politically motivated

Following the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission’s decision to award the tender for the supply of Biometric Voter Registration (BVR) kits to Chinese firm Laxton Group, the MDC-T has spoken out against this.  The MDC-T believes that the awarding of the tender was politically motivated.  Here is the full statement:

MDC calls on Zimbabweans to register to vote in their millions

A few days ago, the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC), announced that the tender to supply biometric voter registration ((BVR) kits ahead of the 2018 harmonized elections had been awarded to a Chinese company, Laxton Group Limited.

This award is in stark contradiction to the recommendation of the political parties that observed the BVR validation process. The MDC is aware that the Zanu PF – appointed State Procurement Board directly influenced ZEC to award this tender to the Chinese company. It does not escape us that the beleaguered and faction – ridden Zanu PF party has strong bonds of friendship with the Communist Party of China (CPC).

Notwithstanding this biased and politically – inspired award of the BVR kits supply contract to Laxton Group Limited, the MDC is calling upon Zimbabweans, living in the country and in the diaspora, to register to vote in their millions when the voter registration exercise begins in due course.

Voter apathy is one of the biggest enemies of democracy. Indeed, the collapsing and faction – infested Zanu PF regime will be a direct beneficiary of voter apathy, particularly in urban areas. The solution, therefore, is to make sure that no less than 6 million Zimbabweans should register to vote for the 2018 harmonized elections.

The brutal, notorious and corrupt Kamuzu Banda dictatorship in Malawi was voted out of power in 1994 when no less than 82% of eligible voters in Malawi voted on polling day. Thus, we assure the toiling masses of Zimbabwe that we are up to the game and that this time around, the MDC will never, ever allow ZEC to steal the people’s vote on behalf of Robert Mugabe and the Zanu PF dictatorship that he fronts.

The people of Zimbabwe deserve to be governed by a responsible, competent, accountable, transparent and efficient government that will be established through a free and fair electoral process. We shouldn’t be discouraged by the desperate machinations of the incumbent terrorist regime that is already sensing a humiliating and crushing electoral annihilation in next year’s elections.

No dictatorship can stop the people’s march to victory as long as we remain united, determined and focused. The MDC is leaving no stone unturned to ensure that each and every vote in next year’s elections is free and fair. Our push for electoral reforms remains undeterred and our resolute stance against all forms of vote rigging is getting even stronger by the day.
