NERA to take legal action against ZEC over diaspora vote

Political parties under the National Electoral Reform Agenda (NERA) banner are planning to take legal action to compel the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) to ensure that Zimbabweans in the diaspora vote in the 2018 elections.

NERA’s legal department has started an online petition which will assist them in filing legal action and to demonstrate the level of enthusiasm by the diaspora to participate in 2018 elections. The opposition parties have also put in place what they refer to as safeguards to ensure that voters and their votes are protected. Part of the petition which will be submitted to ZEC chairperson Rita Makarau, SADC, African Union, European Union and United Nations, reads:

In Addition NERA has put together Safeguards necessary to protect voters and their Vote. NERA ‘s legal Department will be putting together court action to fight for the Diaspora Vote.

NERA also wants people in the diaspora and various organisations to assist in establishing Neutral Voting Polling Locations in the diaspora, transportation for those in the diaspora to come home for Voter Registration and Voting. You can sign the petition HERE
