Women plan nude demo and sex boycott to protest abuse from state security

Justice for Women, is threatening to mobilize women to hold a nude demonstration as well as to embark on a week-long sex boycott, to protest the abuse of women by state security agents.

Justice for Women director Bridget Nyandoro, speaking to the Weekend Post said:

As long as the violation of women’s rights is not acted upon, as long as the police continue to harass female citizens of this country we will not rest and surely, the nude demo is still on the cards.

The continued harassment of women particularly by State organs is of great concern for us because it affects the participation of women in issues to do with governance.

Zimbabwean women no longer feel safe to take an active role in nation-building activities as they are sexually and physically harassed by those who are supposed to protect and defend their rights.

Women should continue fighting for their rights no matter how tough it may be. Today, we have a lot of people talking about the role played by Mbuya Nehanda in liberating this country — if she could do it why can’t women of this generation do it also.

We are also going to advocate for a no-sex week until our concerns are heard and those harassing women in any way must be brought to book. It is high time women use all means necessary to get the respect they deserve.

These police officers cannot have a busy day in office brutalising women and after that they go home to their wives and girlfriends and enjoy sex.

I once heard someone saying a man cannot last one week without sex (although it’s not scientifically proven), if that is true we want these ministers and police bosses who are unleashing their junior officers on women to be sexually deprived until they realise that we are serious.
