MDC-T MPs take ant-bond notes fight to Parliament
MDC-T legislators are demanding that Finance Minister, Patrick Chinamasa table the $200 million Afreximbank loan agreement, as per constitutional requirements.
The Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe has not divulged the terms of the loan facility nor has it shown evidence of its existence. MDC-T spokesperson, Obert Gutu confirmed that his party’s members will raise the issue in the lower house.
The new Constitution adopted in 2013 makes it compulsory for the Finance minister to gazette all loan agreements and to table them in Parliament as stipulated under Section 300 (3). Gutu said that MDC-T MPs were worried that Government was breaching the Constitution by withholding such information.
