Khama Billiat and Peter Ndlovu make history as Mamelodi Sundowns wins CAF Champions League

Khama Billiat became the second Zimbabwean to win a Caf Champions League medal after Mamelodi Sundowns won the 2016 CAF Champions League despite losing 1-0 to Zamalek in the second leg in Egypt. Sundowns won the cup on a 3-1 aggregate after winning the first leg 3-0.

Billiat becomes the second Zimbabwean after Chris Samakweri to win the Caf Champions League. Samkwere won the Caf Champions League with Democratic Republic of Congo giants TP Mazembe in 2010, and was until yesterday the only Zimbabwean with a winners’ medal from the continental club showpiece.

Samakweri made a substitute appearance in the first leg of the final against Esperance, which TP Mazembe won 5-0 at home. He, however, missed the second leg in Tunisia. Sundowns become the second South African side to win the competition after Orlando Pirates clinched the tournament in 1995.

Peter Ndlovu who is the team manager also enters the history books.
